Wax for black...

I did my car this weekend. It's a black cherry GTP.

After claying an washing it, I used

3M rubbing compund on the car 1st.

CarBrite Black Pearl #4 was next.

NXT 2.0 on top of that.

I coulnd't be happier with the way it looks. My car took a serious beating this winter. I will be putting on a couple more coats of NXT and then topping off with

Collinite 845.

I would recommend any high quality carnauba wax like a Zymol or Swissvax. Polymer's aren't going to give the best look on black, and let's face it, if you have a black car you're going to need to wax it monthly anyways.

In light of him balking at the price of Souveran, I don't think Zymol or Swissvax will be considered in the mix.:D

I'd use one of these. Souveran, Fuzion, or Zymol Vintage. Fuzion is really a awesome product and is gaining favor here.

It's a shame M26 was not included in Kave KG's blind wax test. I would have loved to have seen how it competed against the other waxes that were tested that day. Mike Phillips has repeatedly stated that he would put M26 up against any other wax on black:

M26 leaves a very clear finish and we would put it up against any other wax on the market, including the very expensive boutique waxes like the Zymol.

M26 is a great wax and I would put it up against any of the boutique waxes for "appearance results" on BLACK paint any day of the week including any of the ridiculously prized Z products.

I agree M26 is a excellant wax. But I disagree that it would stand up against Zymol Vintage. I have used many many waxes but none stands up to Vintage. Fuzion and Souveran would and are my back-ups.

In your price range I would chose between Zaino Z5 or Meg #26. Zaino is going to give you better protection that is going to last longer. The look is going to be sharp and mirror like. On certain cars it is tough to beat Zaino. Z5 is used for darker cars and can darken a bit. Usually Z2 is used on lighter cars. Z2 can top Z5 for a bit more of a wetter look since Z2 is perfectly clear and can be used on any non porous surface. Zaino has a specific look that if you like it then usually it become your crack. It can be layered in the same day with the use of ZFX or over a couple of days without. Without ZFX is there no mixing needed.

Meg's #26 is a fantastic product that can darken colors. It does a great job of darkening blues and reds and even balcks. It will give you a month or so of protection. If the paint is corrected then #26 will make your black look very deep. Instead of the mirror like reflection of Zaino, #26 will allow you to look into the paint like an endless pool of black. I used to love #26 and coldn't get enough of it. I would search around and go for the paste if you can find it. It will last a lot longer. EVen thought he paste still smells like banana, the liquid smells so good and is so creamy you might find yourself wanted to taste it.

Either way you can't go wrong, it is just up to the look you are gong for.

Just finished a Shelby Cobra and topped it with Z5pro and then Fuzion. I love Fuzion but seems to be a bit out of your pricerange for good reason.

Quick little lesson on zaino-

The Z2 is the one that needs that accelerator or whatever the product is, correct? But the Z5 can simply be layered on just like an ordinary wax? And you mentioned Z2 going over Z5, right?

I'm sure you are right and do not disagree ... but how would M26 stand up against Royale? :)

Seriously, I would hope that a wax that costs 200 times more would look significantly better--to be precise 200 times better. But as Dave KG's wax test demonstrated, matters are never so simple. How would have guessed that the modestly-priced Collinite 915 would receive more approval votes than the extravagantly-priced Royale.

I was recently given a sample of Vintage, and I very much look forward to trying it on my black S2000 this spring. :xyxthumbs

Z5 and Z2 can be used without ZFX (additive). ZFx allows you to layer the product without much wait time. The ZFX cures the sealant much quicker. But Z2 is optically clear which is why it works so well with light colors. Z5 goes on dark colors. But since Z2 is opticaly clear, it works wonders on top of Z5. It adds that extra glass look on top.

I love Zaino stuff. I think the protection is really good and I enjoy the looks of it. I take care of a car collection that consists of all black cars. They all were switched over to Zaino last year.

But I get bored with the same look. So I decided to top them with Fuzion recently just to tone them down a bit.

When choosing between Zaino and #26 it just comes down to look and last. If you enjoy working on your car (like most of us) the last doesn't really matter. So it comes down to look. Sharp and mirror like (Zaino), Deep and dark (#26). I don't want you to worry about #26 though. It really is a great wax and if your car is swirl free it will look just as good as any other wax. I have them all and even though there are differences I will never justify spending thousands of dollars on a wax. Not even to put on the Bugatti or the two Rolls.

The finish is swirl free, I use menzerna products every time the car needs to be de-swirled and I love doing it too. I usually wax the car atleast, once a week so thats not the problem.

I think Ill give Zaino a shot. Whenever mentioned, it looks like its giving me what I want, which is that sharp, clear mirror like finish.

Zaino Z5 is amazing on black.

Make sure you get Z6 and Z8 as they are must haves!!!!! No matter what I use for an LSP, I always use Z6 and Z8 and they are amazing. Z8 will make anything POP.

Also, make sure you do a Z6 wipedown before applying Z5 or Z2. It will activate the paint and also make it slicker for the Z2/Z5 application.

Ok, i thought it would be as simple as picking up the z2/z5+the accelerator but I guess I do need half of their line up.

Both Z2 and Z5 need the ZFX accelerator if your going to do multiple coats in one day. The max Zaino recommends is 3 coats in a 12 hour period using ZFX accelerator.

If your going to apply a single coat, you do not need the ZFX.

I also think you can get away with one coat of Z5, topped with one coat of Z2 without ZFX...

Ok and after that I can just keep layering the Z2 on (with the ZFX of course)

I would agree with GluXuRy. Everyone has their own opinions and the truth is there are a lot of great products out there as there are bad. Zaino is a great product as are the others people have mentioned.

What sparked the interest to try something new?

No particular reason to be honest. I simply love trying out new products on my car and see how they work. I am real happy with my Turtle Wax Platinum Series, and Im thinking of buying a couple more jars just in case they do stop production on it. (10 bucks canadian at wal mart)
