Wavy paint?. Need advice..

LOL yeah i know. I just talked to DavidB and told him how i regreted not buying all 1z products at the same time:( . People seem to have good luck with DACP and i think i can get that at pepboys so i'll give that a shot and follow it up with the 1z paint polish. How does that sound? I don't want to try the DACP on my m3 untill i try 1z paint polish but the civic probly needs it.

I'll order the other 1z product soon. I don't think it's such a good idea now....... I just had to explain the PC and pads to the G/F:D

BTW here is a pic of how shinny my paint is. It's a shame there are buffer marks in the hood. I'm almost afraid i wont be able to get the shine i have after i polish the paint.

Related question on DACP vs. 1Z Ultra. Which is more aggressive? I get the impression that the 1Z Ultra Polish is more aggressive than DACP but I would like hear from someone who has used both. Thanks for the input.

My order of 1Z Paint polish came in today so i tried it out. First i did the hood and front fenders on my civic to test it out and get the hang of my PC. I started with a yellow pad and ended with a white polishing pad. Then topped it with s100 carnuba. The paint looked alot better then when i started. I'll be able to see if it took the swirls out tomorrow, i didn't have enough sun to see. There were still some water spots the it didn't get out but i didn't expect it to. Keep in mind this is a 93 civic with 10yr old paint. I also clayed before i started.

I then clayed the hood and front fenders on my m3 and started the 1Z Paint Polish with a white polishing pad and topped it with s100 carnuba. Again i wont know alot untill tomorrow when i can see the cars in direct sunlight how it turned out. I could however tell the paint darkend up a little on my m3.

I'm thining about buying the 1Z Ultra paint polish but i want to find out how abrasive it is first. Like how does it compare to DACP? I may need something a little more abrasive then the 1Z paint polish but i don't know what to get.

Oh and do yourself a favor and buy a PC it's an awesome machine for what it's used for. Definatly worth the money.

I have one question on the way i applied the 1z paint polish. I worked it untill it got really thin and there was a slight dust. Is that the correct way to use it?

It sounds like you're using the Paint Polish is just the right way :xyxthumbs

The Ultra is, IMO, pretty aggressive. I don't mind using it (and following up with the PP afterwards) but if you want something just a LITTLE stronger than the PP, maybe try 3M's PI-III RC (pn 05933). *I* think it's milder than the Ultra. Or give the DACP a try. I don't think you're gonna really go wrong with any of those products.

Ok well i washed, clayed, polished, and waxed the rest of the car today. I'm pretty happy with the results i got from the 1Z Paint polish. It did a good job on the buffer damage but it lacks a little in getting out burnt in water spots. Seemed to do a fairly good job on swirl marks but if you have heavy swirl marks you may want to start with something a little more abrasive.

Again the sun went down on me so i wasn't able to get any direct sunlight pics but here is one i took of my hood. This is with 1Z Paint polish and 2 coats of s100 carnuba.

Mantic6t9- Looks good, but it's always hard to tell from pics. Did you achieve the high-gloss look you were worried about not getting?

Your observation about the limited cutting ability of the PP is pretty much what EVERYONE says after they first do some polishing with the PC, no matter WHAT polish they use. Seems like there's always something that won't quite come out with the chosen product. But there are worse things than some etched water spots (like thinned paint).

It's hard to say if i lost any gloss. I do think it lost some of its "pop" though if that makes any sence to you. In a month or so i plan on polishing with SEC and maybe i'll get a little back i don't know. I think the 1Z paint polish did a great job but maybe it should be followed by a finner polish on dark cars? All that aside the paint looks great and i'm pretty happy with the results.

Mantic6t9 - Yeah, I know what you mean. Mine looked better after two passes with the Metallic, with soft-then-softer pads.

Well i have a month or so to decide on my next step. Since i just waxed i'd hate to strip all that off and waste all that product. How did you apply the matallic polish hand/pc? I'd really like to get that little extra kick back. It was polished with a rotary i wonder if i'll be able to get it back with my PC.

Mantic6t9- First, I should say that I was working the PP and the first application of MP with the Cyclo. Its "polishing" pads are a little more aggressive than most *PC* polishing pads and that machine is a bit more aggressive too.

After working the PP probably about as you did, I did a pass with the Cyclo and the MP. Looked better, with a higher gloss. Then I went over it again using the PC and a white Lake/CMA pad at speed 5.5. More subtle improvement, but I still *THOUGHT* it was noticeable. But sometimes you see what you want to see ;)

Since the rotary-job on yours wasn't really that great (the swirls alone should've be refracting light and thus making it less than swell), I'd say you CAN get it back to AT LEAST that level and probably better. But yeah, I'd wait until your S100 needs redone too.

I think i've decided to give Menzerna Final Polish a try. I was going to try the Matallic Polish but i already have SEC and i figure i would get about the same results with either product. I'll wait untill i run out of SEC and then give the MP a try.

I have a question about my PC pads. I only have 2 polishing pads for it, one i'm using with 1Z PP and the other i was saving for SEC. If i use the Menzerna Final Polish on the pad i plan using SEC with would it be ok to use SEC afterward as long as i clean it good?

Well, theoretically you CAN get the pad clean enough that it won't cause any problems, and I don't know if there would BE any problems anyhow. But I myself would NOT do it, though; I'd just get another pad (or 10-12 :D ).

Yeah i figured as much. I bought 2 yellow, 2 white, and 2 grey pads. I wish i wouldn't have bought the grey pads and got 2 more white instead. I don't think i'll ever use the grey pads. Maybe i can find someone who would trade:D
