Water Treating Wood?

Does water treating the wood really work to make the wood from messing up when it gets all wet? I'm thinking about doing it for protection?

What are useig the wood for? I've always bought the treated wood for outside use. Thats what I have for the flooring of my mobile trailer. If you have untreated wood now that will be outside you need to get it treated for sure or you will have a problem soon.

It's for my enclosed trailer. Just that it was leaking a little yesterday and I think I might need to treat it. But does it work?

If your asking will treated wood be protected against wetness the answer is yes. Like I said the wood I've used was treated when I purchused it. I've never had to treat it myself, but I would guess that it would work just as well if you treat it or if the store treats it for you. Even if your trailer is enclosed its good to have the wood treated to protect against leaks from the trailer, water tank and chemical containers.

Just a inexpensive suggestion thats worked well for me over the years....

Get some inexpensive glossy epoxy enamel (oil based) paint. I've always used Gloss Black. One quart should will be ample to do the the whole floor of a 6x10. To apply, simply pour out on the bare plywood floor of your trailer and spread with a roller quite liberally. Set up a fan and let it dry for an hour or three (until it's not tacky) then apply a second coat. It will need to fully cure over night.

I've found that it's impervious to most products and cleans up quite nice. If the wood is not new, scuff sanding with 80 grit sand paper will help with adhesion. Hope this helps :)

You can use and epoxy based paint to protect against water. There is always the option of having sprayed in bed liner. It's little more more pricey but just about impervious to water and chemicals.
