Water Spots GONE!

I have a 2008 black Solstice.

I washed it last week and I was horrified when I there were water spots all over the car that would not come off.

After lots of research and reading these and the solstice forums I decided to get the Meguires Scratch X and the Gold paste wax.

The scratch X removed the water spots and left the car with a mirror like shine. Meguires recommends waxing the car after using Scratch X so I applied a coat of their Gold paste wax.

The car looks even better than when I picked it up brand new.

Thanks for providing a great website it helped me with my water spots.

I had the same problem. Scratch-X didn't seem to work for me so I used K-AIO and it took them out with no problem.

Had you tried to clay the car to get the spots off? I had that problem on one of my cars and clay got rid of them. Good that you got them off though.

Scratch-X is a good quick remedy for small problems like this. I'm glad it worked for you. for future reference, if you ever get tougher water etchings, I'd recommend kAIO (Klasse AIO) or JWPS (jeff werkstatt Prime Strong) to remove that stuff... these two products also work great on glass, rims, pretty much any exterior part of the car!

Warning: they will burn right through any LSP (last step product), including that gold paste :)

Is KAIO or Prime Strong actually stronger than ScratchX?

I don't know, though I doubt it. Scratch X is a mild polish, so my recommendation wouldn't be to use it every time you have water spots.

Things aren't adding up. If ScratchX is a stronger polish that KAOI, then how is AIO removing etches better? There is no way KAIO is a stronger polish than ScratchX.

i agree, the majority of AIO type products are mostly chemical cleaners, scratchx has actual mechanical abbrasives.

After using Scratch X and putting a coat of Meguires Gold Class I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on using the Turtle Wax Liquid polish as a touch up between washings. I have a bottle of this that I have not used. Will it eat through the Mequires Gold?

Yes, it will most likely strip your Meguiars Wax, considering it's a polish. BTW, if you wash/dry correctly, you shouldn't need to polish between each wash.

With two black cars I am always polishing between washes. After working so hard yesterday to get the water spots off of my solstice and waxing with Meguires it looked so great but this morning I woke up and found something that looked like sap on the driver side door (I dont this it was really tree sap but it was a sap like substance).

I tried to carefully knock it off and then polish with a plain polishing towel but there must have been a trace of the stuff because it caused some smears in my shine. Is this something I detailing spray can help with if the Turtle Wax liquid polish will eat my wax away?

Any polish will strip your wax, think about it. It has to go through the wax to get to the clearcoat which the imperfection is in. For a daily driver you can't worry about every small little thing. Wash every 3-4 days, leave it at that.

I'd be careful with the quick detailers and the detailing sprays. Spraying a dirty car and merely using a MF towel to wipe off gives you a great chance of marring the surface. If you plan on using detailing spray, make sure the dust is not sticky and VERY little. Otherwise, you'll be better off waiting until the next wash.

It seems like you may be a bit confused as to what a polish is. If you have a good layer of wax on the car, water spots shouldn't etch your surface to the point where you need a polish. Furthermore, the polish that you are applying by hand will do very little correction, if any at all. Hand polishes don't work very well unless you concentrate on a small area and spend hours on a single panel.

Real polishes are not supposed to be used between every wash. They are not designed to be used between every wash. Otherwise we would have to wax our cars after every single wash. Just polish it well once, and it should last from at least a few months to forever, depending on how careful and gentle you are with the washing/drying.

I agreed with mikebai1990, you don't need to polish after each wash. Once you do the polish then use a wax about every 2-4 weeks. You don't need to kill yourself every weekend.

This is one instance where i think NXT would be perfect for you. It is great on black, and has mild cleaners in it.

The mild cleaners would remove mild water spots that accumulate in between washes.

Keep it off of trim though.

Scratch X is actually an abrasive polish. The best way to use scratch x is to have a pad that distributes the force evenly, you dont want to polish with direct finger pressure.

I also believe AIO is better for water spots then scratch x, because its the right tool for the job.

AIO would be faster, and would create a nice base for a lsp, without removing hardly any CC.

If you want to pick up something local for water spots, try ColorX. Its a chemical cleaner, not abrasive like scratch x.
