Water Spots etched!

I have a true blue Mustang and did all my detailing and Zaino this weekend well I have some water spots that are etched into the paint, I used 3M Perfect-II fine cut rubbing compound and it helped some. But they are still there what do you recommend I use or do, I was hesitant to use anything more aggressive and do something wrong! What should I do?:nixweiss

~One mans opinion / observation~

For ‘water spots’ use water/distilled white vinegar or an Isopropanol solution, 5:1 (adjust ratio as required) or try 1/3rd distilled white vinegar, Isopropanol, water to dissolve the alkaline-based mineral water deposits.

~ Hope this helps ~

Experience unshared; is knowledge wasted…/

Where can you get isopropanol? Will this take care of water spots that are etched and have been their awhile? Cuz the 3M fine cut sompound helped alittle. The spots aren't white but you can just see the outside edges of them. Thanks

Well is their a way to tell if the water spots are etched like I said they don't have a white film but you can see the outlines of them. I have had the car since November 02 I detailed and cleaned it on June of 03. I'm sure the water spots were there cause I used Zaino's instructions to the tee and never used anything abrasive. Well this past weekend I used Scratch X and tried 3M fine cut compound on some areas and this helped some with the spots but I didn't get crazy aggresive and this was all by hand. So will vinegar or the other chemical help these? If its etched can I feel it or what?

This stuff is amazing. Removed baked in, etched water spots from a sprinkler system on a 105-degree day last summer.

Label specifically states "Non-Abrasive".

I honestly don't know the answer to your question, but I can tell you that One Grand works. I always keep a bottle on hand for emergency water spots...........

Go to a good camera store and buy a 10X loupe. It's a magnifying glass you set over the spot. It will tell you if the etching is concave (bowl shaped) or if it's a bump above the paint surface.

If it's etched/bowl shaped, the best you can do is smooth out the textured finish within the spot so it's not noticeable. An alternative is to polish away the concave spot with a PC and a compound on a cutting pad.

In addition to the loupe, Radio Shack used to carry a 30X hand held illuminated microscope (part # 63-851). I bought one on closeout last year for ~$20, if I remember.

Maybe you can find one on their website.

Luster,

I have One Grand special Touch and it did nothing on some spots I have on the roof. Once the clear coat is etched you have to use an abrasive to level the paint, Special Touch is non abrasive and didn't do a thing for me.

If you've already used FCRC on the water spots, there's no way that they're still water spot deposits.

If they're not coming out with something as strong as FCRC, you can try another application, as this was only by hand anyway.

If they're really deeply etched though, you may not be able to do much for it... it's kind of a judgement call as to how many times you can try to polish them out and how aggressively. I've never used FCRC, but I might try it one or two more times, depending on how hard I tried the first time.

Maybe someone else could chime in here with more experience with FCRC....

I have merged this thread with the duplicate that was in Detailing.

Please do not post duplicate threads in the future - it really doesn't help anyone.... Thank you.

Sorry about the duplicate I was thinkin double coverage:D I used the FCRC on the rood and it did make a difference but I think a another round might do it. But the paint is only 18 months old so I don't think it should be that bad but a DACP would really help out my poor achin' back!:sosad
