water spots and etching

LOL accum, you're killing me.  I ordered fk1000 yesterday.  I'm going with that and now you want me to try collinite?  Haha.  Nah, joking.

I get what you are trying to say.  Load the pad, spread it around then get as much of it out as possible before applying to car.

Thanks!  Will give it a go.

here's the plan:

wash

nanoscrub w/glide

HD cut or adapt depending on which works.  paint needs some correction

HD polish if needed

fk1000p

OP: As a wekend worrier and just starting doing suctomer's cars, I use collinite 845 and 476s a alot as lsp here in Maine, and I prefer doing it with red foam pad and by hand. I seem to be better able at spreading a thin and even layer of product and get the corners/edges better than with a DA. I will use DA for big flat surfaces like trucks, vans etc... and even then, I still feel I use more product than necessary :)
Your regimen sounds good! I bet adapt will do great with a medium cutting pad. Good luck!

<span>hawaiidude--  If you have an ongoing problem with water spots you might want to consider HD Poxy and HD Express.    My wife's car is non-metallic black.  There is a coat of Poxy on the car from about 3 months ago and a coat of HD Express (spray wax) that's about a month old.    Yesterday her car sat outside all day---it would rain for a short while then the sun came out in full brightness long enough to dry the car.   This happened a least a half dozen times during the day and each time the sun was out enough to dry the car inbetween rain events.

<span>Went out this morning to bring it in for a wash and to my surprise there was not one water spot anywhere on the car.  I use Poxy and Express on the car for the awsome look but never thought it would perform so well protecting against water spotting.

My wife loves Express wax, ever since I brought it home, it's been her favorite topper after a car wash. It really is easy to use.

Thanks for all the help.  Here's what I did this past weekend.  Sorry I totally forgot to take pics, I'll try and take some tonight.

wash

nanoscrub w/glide

HD cut or adapt

HD polish

ZAIO

fk1000p

NANOSCRUB is ABSOLUTELY AWESOME.  Where has this been all my life?  I threw away all my claybars.  So awesome.

I expected the HD products to be easy to use but they were anything but.  I may have been doing something wrong but they were not easy to use.  One thing I know I did wrong was I used too much product.  I used an orange pad with cut, it was OK but if it went on thick, it was really hard to remove.  It did a decent job correcting the paint but took several passes to get the results I wanted.  I also learned that the etching had eaten through the clear coat on the hood and roof.  So in the future it will been to be repainted.

HD adapt I might have to throw away.  I tried it on some areas, it did a good job but it is SUPER hard to remove.  I applied as instructed, used a PC with an orange pad as thin as I could, but when I went to buff it off, it was really really hard to get off.  I've never experience anything like it before.  I must be doing something wrong?

HD polish was also pretty hard work.  It went on super easy but was really hard work to remove.  And its NOT dust free.  Tons of dust.  The reults were good though, very clean, polished paint.

ZAIO was the easiest part of this process.  What I figured out I love about zaino, and its a major time saver, is that I can use it on EVERYTHING and not have to worrry about white stains.  Trim, windows, plastic, its all good.  Seemed to work really well after the polish.

fk1000p was easy to use.  I ended up applying by hand.  With all the prep work it went on super easy.  The look was excellent, maybe because I had the ZAIO on under it.

I decided that I will keep using HD polish (maybe look for something easier to use).  Cut I'll keep but I don't have a lot of use for it, and the adapt?  I dunno, I might have to get rid of it.  I also decided that I'm sticking with Zaino.  I'll continue to use ZPC, ZAIO, Z8 and top it off with fk1000p.  I'll stop using Z2.  having to use ZFX sucks anyway.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

If you were getting dusting with HD Polish, then I think you were using too much product. I believe that's also why you were having a hard time removing it. I have never had any dust when using HD Polish and it has always been super easy to wipe off for me. 4 pea sized drops on a 6" pad is all I use (I think that's what is recommended), and it's never been too little product to do an area, sometimes it even feels like a little too much.

As for HD Adapt, I think I was using too much product when I tried it last, but: my experience with it is similar to yours. I couldn't get it to just wipe off; adding a spritz of water helped in a big way though. I'm going to try using less product the next time around, like 3 pea sized drops and see if that makes it any easier to work with; that does seem to be the way HD products work, less is definitely more!

I wouldn't give up on them just yet, try using less product in the future and see what happens. I'm sure you'll see just how far a little goes, and how easy it is to work with when you get the amount and process dialed in.

thanks ryoken.  I'll give it a shot.  Good to hear it wasn't just me struggling with adapt.

One issue I did have and why i was using more product that I should have was it was a hot day and the polish was drying fast.

Yeah I would give the HD products another go around. I have used Adapt, cut and polish and in all 3 I have had panels where it wiped off like butter and other that were really a pain to wipe off. I figured that several factors like how dirty my pad was, how much I put on the pad was affecting the results since i got such opposite results. I am still dialing it down each and every time I do a car :)  As for dusting, when I first starting using those, I did have dust, but now, I must be doing it better because i rarely have dust and when I do, i know that something needs tweaking :)

Regardless, I am glad you were able to get some corrections and I am sure the car looks tons better !
