water spot ?

i have some water spots on my car. i used a ssr 2.5/orange followed by a 1/white pad and knocked them down a little, but the etching is still there. this was my first time using the porter cable seriously, and i wanted to know if anybody else has had similar experiences, where the spots were removed using my methods?

any other products to recommend? i have tried other polishes, but they really did nothing. i had the best results w/ the poorboys stuff. i tried vinegar to do it, but it didnt help much, just removed the calcium, and i found that the previous owner let it get etched badly.

would meg's scratch x work better than what i used? or is the 2.5 and 1 more aggressive.

on a side note, it did leave an incredible shine! which shows promise in their products.

Waterspot etching is a *****.:furious: Depends on the severity of the etching, how soft/hard your clear coat is and you may need a more aggressive polish/pad combo. The ScratchX is really intended to be used by hand while the PBs 2+ polishes are more aggressive. If the etching is deep into the clear, then your other option may be to look into wet sanding.

Best thing to try first would be straight vinegar before you jump into polishing.

I had some ugly waterspots on my black mustang and I found that using the burgandy meguiars pad on my Porter Cable with the 1st step Meguiars paint cleaner worked wonderfully. It's not abrasive and it still got them out.

While the paint cleaner isnt abrasive, the burgundy pad is..and you will probably instill marring. You might need to finish up with a light abrasive polish/polishing pad if you go with this suggestion
