washing with ONR

Most autopian's purchased the Nomad based on a thread started by DavidB. Some good info in there with reference to where to buy and how to power the unit.

Here's an online retailer's mentioned in that thread. The other retailer (Kotula's) has since sold out.

Nomad H2O On-The-Go Portable Power Washer at OrangeOnions.com

Thank you for the link. This looks like just the thing for an undercarriage wash during winter. I was thinking perhaps a fine mist of Salt-X solution (Salt-X = The best salt and salt corrosion fighter!) on the underside of the car. *hee hee*

I use the single bucket method and change it out halfway through if needed. That Nomad unit looks like it would be better for fenderwells than a pesticide sprayer is.

@ integritydetail, what jump starter are you using? How long can you run the Nomad at full strength before it kills the battery?

I have a Black and Decker unit from Sam's. I've never killed the battery while using it, so IDK how long it'll last. I washed 3 cars one day with it and it never slowed down, so it doesn't go too fast.

I think the nomad is pretty cool. However, don't people mar their paint by not cleaning the mitt off? I would think that would be the big issue not using a bucket.

I mentioned in my post that I use multiple towels to wash with. Each towel has two sides and I usually use about 4 on average to wash a vehicle. I never really understood the whole: "same mitt on the whole car thing." Seems like there's too much chance for marring that way. I mean, unless you pressure rinse the mitt after each panel your dirtying your water and washing with a dirty mitt, ya know?

^ That's what I was thinking. It guess it all depends on the sprayer attachment piece. Also, I wonder if it even produces enough pressure to foam.

i guess i'm not too concerned with the actual foam........ just a soapy pre rinse.....

The Nomad doesn't produce enough pressure to foam, and you may be missing the point of a "rinseless wash." The unit only holds 3.5 gallons, if you get into trying to do a traditional wash, you will have to refill a couple times. With ONR in the unit, and doing a rinsless wash, I can wash most vehicles with under a gallon and not have to use a dirty solution to do it.

Question on weekly or bi-weekly washing method and assuming car is fully detailed (full polish, sealant, wax). We live in San Diego, CA where it environmental contaminants aren't too bad.

Is it safe to dust off the car daily or every other day?

Is it worth doing ONR after a foam cannon wash and rinse?

I guess the the answer to the 2nd question depends on how dirty the car is.

Can anyone please share their weekly/bi-weekly wash routine so I can get an idea of how to adjust mine? Also any pros/cons of using a pressure spray bottle w/1 bucket vs 2 bucket method?

Thanks.

ps. I was looking at the P21S Conditioning Shampoo also (although not rinseless)

Depending on how dirty:

1. Light-Quick/Instant Detailer and Soft MF

2. Light to Moderate-Waterless Wash and Soft MF

3. Moderate-ONR

From personal experience, a foam soak + rinse with no wiping isn't doing much. And as for your bucket/sprayer question, it's personal preference... whatever you are comfortable with. If you use a sprayer, use more towels so you don't scratch...if you use one bucket, change the water when it gets dirty...if you don't use a grit guard, don't let your mitt hit the bottom...etc, etc.

If you have an air source, could you not attach a paint spray gun with ONR as a quick rinse and then use one bucket and a towel? I used to go with 2 buckets until I saw the one bucket used a few times on black cars with no damaging effects. The spray gun was used to apply tire dressing- awesome BTW for that application.

There are other air guns, I have one, that I'm thinking of using with an attached 3 gallon sprayer. A quick air/onr combination would get things loose before going to the towel and bucket.

Hope that makes sense,

Robert Regan

I use a pesticide sprayer for pre-soaking ONR. Air seems like a good idea but I'm not sure if you'll get much more benefit out of it over a pump sprayer. A few pumps will create enough pressure to soak the whole car. Granted I have a 60 gallon compressor so I try not to fill it if I don't have to.
