Washing with AIO

Has anyone tried this?

I mixed 2 oz of Klasse AIO with my MEGs Gold Class car wash.

Washed as normal and notice that the the soap bubbles were only half the regular amount.

When I did the flood rinse the water did not give the normal sheeting action but rather gave a good beading look.

Dryed with a mf towel and the finish had an extra gloss that let me eliminate the extra step of using something like Aqua Wax or FK100.

This may be a step saver I might employ if I'm in a hurry.

2 oz of KAIO per wash

are you made of $

2 oz is enough to AIO several cars

I thing I will just AW as I dry if I am in a hurry

Yea Im with you. I rather use less money on aqua wax and just use that. It takes about a minute more of my time to hurry and spray the car with aqua wax and it a lot less money.

Nice experiment though. However did you have wax on the car before you started? If you did, then your beading may just came from that alone and not the AIO mixed with the GC Wash. GC wash does not remove wax. Now if you used Dawn on the car so that the car had no wax and then had the same result, then I would say that you have something. An expensive something. But something.

I am confused

you know that AIO is a strong chemical cleaner and will strip most waxes right?

Correct, AIO is a strong chemical cleaner, however when we put an AIO on, it is usually full strength. Now take the situation here where he pours it into water (not knowing how much water), I would think that the cleaning properties of the AIO are now nullified or at least diluted, therefore having little to no cleaning ability. BEacuse of the AIOs inability to clean we do not know if our beading came from the wax on the car already or if it was the diluted AIO that did it.

That was my thought on it. I never had the pleasure of adding AIO to water to see what happens. At least a water based AIO was choosen to do this. If it was a solvent based AIO it may have gotten ugly.

I think most of AIO cleaning happens when it is applied by rubbing and not if it is just put down it a very deluted form.

What I think I'm doing is a very mild cleaning of the wax already on the car, I saw no evidence that any was removed, and maybe putting down a little acrylic film.

I'm in no way saying that this is a new way to do anything but it is something that I tried and was not disapointed with the results.

The instructions I received with my Klasse kit states that AIO can be used as a car wash..(1 cap in a gallon of water).

I would tend to agree with what you are saying. I like the experiment. It was daring, gutsy, and showed some creativeness. That's how progress is made. The only issue that I question is that the Klauss did anything positive for you, that's all, or was it the old wax.

Old wax or new AIO?

I don't think I could really be sure... and if it was the AIO I doubt if it would bond very well to the FK1000.

But my eyes didn't lie and there was a change in appearence other than just washed wax.

Now let me tell you about my experiments that were complete failures......

You are correct on that one.

Appearently this is not a totally new idea. It was started here on Autopia with a motorcycle. Strange but true. See if you can find the article here on Autopia.

He also said that basically this concoction is bogus. He said that the cleaners would just sit at the bottom of the bucket, (they are petroleum distillates (oil and water don't mix)).

AG endorses this though.

However the AG Klasse AIO section says:

• NEVER USE DISH DETERGENT for washing your car. Use a capful of this polish (KAIO) instead. Although you will not have a foamy cleaning solution, dirt will be lifted from your vehicle’s surface.

I use a capful of AIO in my wash bucket when I have several layers of SG as a topper. Everything you said mirrors my experience: less suds, extra gloss after drying. My theory is that the AIO "exfoliates" the compromised top layer of SG which effectively removes the dirt along with it to reveal a fresher layer of SG beneath. Whatever it does, I think the result looks better than the result from regular washing and using AW after. The AW solution is a lot more economical and almost as good looking. Using AW adds protection while the AIO in the wash bucket will remove a minute amount of SG in my opinion.

A few years ago I experimented with AIO but I just poured it over the surface and then washed as normal with four star shampoo

It got rid of all the fine water marks on a ten year old commodore and gave it a crisp and reflective appearance

Probably be nice to do before you start polishing

It's not wise to mix klasse into the bottle of shampoo or even the bucket as it will kill the suds
