washing towels

I have the same question if you put towels in the wash with wax or tire dressing on them, wouldnt that cause problems when you put clothes in after? I was thinking of wiping down the washer with bleach and then running a cycle without anything in it... any ideas?

Yup. I do this all the time. What you need to do is to clean the tub out after you wash really dirty stuff, whether your are following the dirty load with good clothes or your detailing stuff. You can use anything that will desolve grease, such and Dawn and such. But the fastest and easiest method is to take a towel (paper or fabric) and put a little of your regular laundry detergent on it, and run it around the inside of the tub with your hand. Voila! All the grease and residue will be gone.

FWIW, I wipe down the tub prior to washing MF's too, to pick up lint from my regular wash so that it doesn't clog my MF's.

You're all set then, because any residue left behind is your regular laundry detergent. So just load her up and wash away.:xyxthumbs

Why no chlorine bleach?

I've seen this mentioned before but never ask why. My wheel and wheel well wash mitt is a nice beige after a winter's use. I've used some Oxy Clean but it's still beige.

Chlorine bleach weakens fabrics (and often makes the colours fade). It seems to affect synthetic fibres more than cotton or linen.

I'm with Taxlady on this (chlorine bleach.) Sure you can use a little to brighten up your underwear and socks but on detailing towels I don't put any in. It weakens the fabric as Taxlady said.

When I was out in CA I use to use Chlorine bleach like there was no tomrrow. This was the Ultra (Clorox) stuff use only 3/4 cup. I used about 2 cups+ per small laundry load. What do I get for using so much bleach (must of used 5 gallons in 5 months)? Socks that have holes all over them due to the bleach eating through the cotton.

So Clorox you stay away from taking over my Liquid tide and woolite for detailing needs......
