I just had my 98 Eclipse (Jet black) repainted. Its been raining here in Dallas so the car is starting to get dirty as its my daily driver. The front end has been splashed with light dirt/mud. How soon can I wash the car after it stops raining? The rain will probably let off in a few hrs and dry up. Can i high pressure wash the car or should I hand wash it in 30 degrees lol. Its Du pont paint so the quality is good and not cheap. I cant wait to clean up the car!! thanks!!

If you go to the pressure wash, don't get too close. Keep atleast a foot away.

I used spray detailer (E1 to be exact) a few years ago on a red car after it came out of the body shop. A few months later the spot I used it on turned it a darker red. I don't know why....

I would wait for a month or two. It may be a myth, but it is what I do.

Meguiar’s #00 Hi-Tech Wash and #34 Final Inspection (spray detailer) are both safe for fresh paint. You can use them immediately.

Even if the chemicals you use are fresh paint safe you need to be especially careful with your tools, mitts, towels, etc. Your paint won’t be fully hardened yet and will scratch/swirl easier at first. Use high quality tools and apply them gently.

PC.

If you want a QD that's safe for new paint, Megs #34 is a safe bet. I'd be very wary of using a pressure wash on brand-new paint, even a foot away would make me plenty nervous.

I went to the car wash and sprayed the car off.. I was pretty far away from the paint though.. atleast a foot. I then used a microber towel and pat dried the car topping it off with Megs. Mist and wipe with another microber towel. Lookin' good! I want to start zainoing the car but i'll wait

Meg's Mist and Wipe QD is not bodyshop-safe as it contains silicones (If I recall correctly). Since it is a QD, the silicone amount is more than likely minimum so I think you are ok for now. Try not to use it consistently (or any other non-bodyshop-safe product for that matter).

doh! thanks for the heads up.. I actually just used 2 maybe 3 sprays per panel.. and just slightly rubbed against the surface of the paint. How safe is it to use Z6 detailer spray or the Tropicare spray detailer?? I like to "touch up" the car after a wash. Eventually I'll be using the Eagle Wax as you dry which I've had excellent results with. It's just the waiting period.. I know not to hand polish/wax the car for a couple months? Is there a link out there that shows the precautionary measures tot ake for a freshly painted car? Thanks guys for the help!

I *REALLY REALLY REALLY* wish somebody would sticky one of the innumerable threads where we talk about this stuff; if I had a link handy I'd post it, but I don't :(

You can hand/machine polish, but I'd wait until it hardens some more (unless you have something really awful that'd be a pain to remove on harder paint). While you're waiting for it to finish curing/outgassing, I'd use a fresh-paint-safe-glaze. Examples include Meguiar's #5 (my fave)/#3/#7/#81/Deep Crystal step #2 Polish; 3M IHG; Mother's Glaze.

A *very* mild polish (with decent filling too) that's fresh-paint OK is Meguiar's #9. Their #80 is OK too, and leaves a little fresh-paint-safe protection, but the abrasives in #80 are sometimes (rarely, but it happens) too harsh for fresh paint.

cool thanks man.. the car is "dirty" again from the ice melting from overnight... dam I wanna get into it lol. I'll be patient for a month.. till then I guess i'll just hand wash it gently but effectively
