Washing a Showcar

It's a 2003/2004 Jeff Gordon Nextel Cup showcar that I may have the oppertunity to clean. It really needs to be washed all I could see when it was in the trailor was handprints everywhere and the only thing the other guy used to clean it was snappy shine, so I'm not really sure where to begin on a car like this.

I display show cars for a NASCAR team and wouldn't dream of washing the cars in the traditional way. QEW is about as wet as I'd want a car like that.

Why does the car need washing? Its probably just dust and fingerprints on it. A good QD session and a few microfibers will do the trick. I've taken cars out of the race shop that have been sitting for months and are covered in shop dust and grime and all that I needed was a QD session.

Use Poorboys Spray & Wipe! I only wash my daily driver Silverado 4 or 5 times a year but I S&W 4 or 5 times a week.

How do you QD a dusty car without leaving swirls or scratches in the clear coat.

A good microfiber will pick up the dust and shouldn't swirl or scratch. A real dusty car will need several towels but they work fine.

Keep in mind we're talking about a race car here, not a production car. If a normal car is really dusty, its probably better to rinse off the car but that's not a viable option with most race cars.

If you'll look at the paint closely on a NASCAR, you'll see what bret means. Bubbles, runs, all sorts of stuff.

"Detailing" a NASCAR isn't near the same as even a daily driver.

They look great from 20 feet or so. No one expects anything near autopian standards on one of those things.

Yeah, I figured going with a QD would be the only way to go. I think more then 60% of the body is decals anyway. I just thought it'd be funny to see my neighbors expressions after seeing me wax it in my driveway. Just curious Bret, which team is it?
