I never use Dawn anymore, now that I use AIO. Prior to that I had always used Mother's Pre-Wax Cleaner. Because of all the talk about Dawn on Autopia, I tried it for a while. Didn't like it. It was obvious to me that a strong Dawn wash does not remove all waxes, especially ones with some polymer formulation like #26. In fact, I doubt Dawn removes any #26 at all, unless you apply undiluted Dawn directly to the surface. If you're going to do that, you might as well spray Simple Green directly on your paint. Undiluted Dawn has almost the same pH I think.
Anyway, I use a strong solution of car soap (twice the normal amount in water) and then use a paint cleaner like AIO, or Mother's (or PPCL, GEPC, etc. etc.) and then you are good to go.
