I know this question probably sounds really dumb, but i was wondering if you wash new towels before using it to buff off polish? Also, should i air dry them or put them in the dryer?

Yes, place the towels in the washing machine once to ensure that they wont lint the first time you use them. And do NOT put the towels in the dryer, allow them too air dry. And when you put the towels in the washing machine do NOT use any fabric softner.

<strong class='bbc'>Always[/b] wash new towels before use. I use a little detergent, wash on the Normal cycle, no softeners, then dry on the fluff cycle in the dryer, no cling free dryer thingy.

I would very strongly recommend washing new towels, especially after handling hundreds of them. They have dust, dirt, cardboard pieces, etc on them. I certaintly wouldn't want to rub any of that on my paint!

could you expand as to why you wouldn't put in the dryer. I find that if I air dry the towels they are very rough and not flexible. However sent thru the dryer helps to remove lint, and leaves them softer. I don't use any fabric thingies.

It's a good idea to at lesat machine dry them until they are 95% dry. If you let them completely air dry, they end up feeling like sandpaper...not something I'd want to rub on my paint...

If the weather is dry, the can take on quite a static charge, so most of us dry about 75% in the machine, and then finish by air drying. Now some folks don't like air drying, they say the towels get too stiff. It's your choice. Enjoy!

I've started to wash my towels with dawn. It seems to work very well. I dry my cotton towels in the drier. Static charge isn't really a big problem down here; Only a few days in the winter when a cold front comes through. My microfiber towels I hang dry though.

I'm also getting ready to wash some new towels...Found some plush 100% cotton made in usa at linens&things, their house brand.I've read on some other posts that the problem with drying in the dryer is sometimes there may be fine grains of sand or dirt left on the paddles that may transfer to your towels. We spend a lot of time at the beach and wash beach towels and bathing suits often, so I sometimes get sand not completely washed out from the washer in the dryer.

my .02...

Regarding not machine drying.. I remember a few posts back someone mentioning the effects of machine drying MF towels.. So since i read that post, i never machine dry them... Not sure if i maybe read it wrong or something, but im pretty sure i read something pertaining to dryers and MF towels..

You can use dryer for MFs.

Make sure lint trap is clean and maybe wipe out interior for lint. This will prevent lint from getting in the MF.

Dry them separately as well for the same reasons.

If you like set the dryer on low heat.

It soffens the materials and gets rid of lint. Definitly if it is terry cotton. If it is terry cotton i would wash them about 3 times and dry them in the drier to soften material. But if it is MF towels or others a good wash with no soaps and then a good air dry will work
