Wash Mitts a Dieing

Okay in the last week I have lost 2 wool wash mitts. They where both bought at the same time. Any was I am tring to figure what is cuasing the problems I am having. I am washing them in the washing machine set on delicate two at a time and set to small load. Putting in abour 2 to 3 caps of woolite, a little bit of tide and a little bit of fabric softner. Then letting them ari dry after that which doesn't take to long. Oh yeah the water here is run through a water softerner that is recharged by the amount of water used and uses duracube salt.



The failure of the mitts of is a rip that I could see and well I could tear the them apart with no trouble. Was hoping to try to tear a big chunk off that i could still use. Which well didn't work to well.
 
How long are they lasting for you?



I am not particularly careful with mine. I wash them in warm water, regular laundry soap, regular cycle, with whatever else needs washing. Then they go in the dryer on high, but inside out until almost dry. Then I turn them rightside out and finish drying them.



I get 6 months or more out of them, which I am satisfied with.
 
Well gusses they where about 2 to 3 years old but proably only got used a total of 6 to 8 times until this summer. Then proably got used like 12 times form summer till now. Have washed 3 cars in the last week but that was becuase the weather has been above freezing. Not sure if there is a corellation but the first one died after using qew for the first time and the second one died after making it through 3 qew washes. All the qew washes have well been done in the last week. Only reasoning really that i wonder about qew is becuase that stuff drys my hands out like nothing and I was wondering if it took some of the natural oils out of the mitt which could cuase them to tear more easy. The wash that I usally use when it is warm enough out is Greased Lightning Orange Blast Car Wash.



Really what is getting me is both of them going out so close togther when one mitt was used a good 5 to 6 car washes less then the other becuase it got lost over the winter.
 
sheepskins for me are the only mitt that i can use that doesnt scratch and are easily rinsed of dirt and grit that has been picked up. cotton and microfiber dont seem to release dirt as easily as sheepskin does (to me anyways).
 
I've used the sheepskin wash mit from autogeek and it fell apart on me after just a few uses. They sent me a replacement and the same thing happend. So, I recently purchased a lambswool mit from Exceldetail, and so far after 3 or 4 washes its holding up fine...



I dont think I would ever wash them in the machine. A good blast from the hose gets them clean enough...

How does it last mate? and is thier much difference between this and the lambs one?
 
Try hand washing the mitts in warm water... rinse thoroughly in warm water, and then place them on a wooden dowel/peg (where some air can get inside the mitt) and let them "air-dry" (out of the sun).



Are they "tearing" on a seam where they are stitched together?
