wash mit? natural seasponge? what to wash with?

Another grout sponge user here. I too pick mine up at HD. They are made by QEP.

www.qep.com

click on grouting & cleanup. Then click sponges. It's sponge 70005.

Sea Sponge + synthetic sponge for chunking large / really messy stuff off lightly. This keeps my sea sponge decently clean while not over doing it with the synthetic.

Last time I saw Barry's car (black S-Class)at Meguiar's it was pretty flawless for a daily driver and the guy that comes to their facility to wash his car does so with a sponge! Give it a try on a fender or part of the hood. Compare it to some other wash methods. I think you'll come out surprised.

SpoliedMan is correct with this statement. I actually talked to David last year (innovativedetaing.com) about why he uses sponges.

David told me, in his opinion, grout sponges rinse dirt & debris out better than the mitts, as mitts tend to hold/trap the dirt in the nap of the mitt. He told me he's done tests between the sponges and the wash mitts and noticed less marring/swirls when using sponges.

I just picked up a SONUS sheepskin mitt to replace my Target mitt. It is definatly thicker, but not as thick as I hoped. It works very well and holds a ton of water. By the time I am done, my bucket is minus quite a bit of water.

I believe the Sonus mitt is no different than the mitt in Target as well as the mitt in WalMart, etc... I have them all. They even have the same design in the black, elastic cuff.

I think the Sonus mitt is the Viking wash mitt.

There are only so many sheepskin wash mitt makers in China that these companies import from. It's not like they make their own mitts.

For the money and quality, Eurow mitts from WalMart are top notch. I even picked out some massive, plush mitts from Target. You just have to sift through the pile and pick out the good ones.

Received my natural sea sponge today and tried it out. Wow! I love the thing. I was using an MF mitt before, but after trying out the sea sponge I doubt I'll be going back to anything else.

What about it did you like? All of this sea sponge talk has me thinking of ordering one. Thx.

It is extremely soft and absorbs a TON of soap and water from the bucket. I've tried synthetic sponges, sheepskin, MF - the sea sponge just feels the best and holds the most water of the other types/brands I've tried. From what I've read here, it is also very gentle on the paint.

I was a bit hesitant to drop $20 for one, but upon using it I feel it was money well spent.

Hello........Anyone try this product yet? I've got a couple large vehicles that takes forever to dry, and this seems like a good alternative to toweling.

Don't think I'd use it on my show car though.......

Thanks, and regards.......Jack

While we're on the subject of sponges, Target has a new Vroom PVA sponge which was a little different.

Going back a ways here but, did you ever try out the PVA sponge? I just picked on up on clearance yesterday because they are dried out and rock hard. I hydrated it and it is very strange. It's not so much 'spongy' as it is, um.... 'meaty'. It almost feels like a breast implant, but with a spongy appearance.
