Wash, Clay, Wash Again?

Is it good/necessary to wash again after you have already clayed? What is the reason?

After the first wash would you have to dry?

I wash again to get rid of the QD and other things that might be on it after claying. I don't wipe the QD off when I clay so it dries on the car, combined with my clay it gets a little yellow -brown. It is necessary to wash it off to get the leftovers off.

Edit: I don't polish afterwards (don't have the tools too).

When I clay, I like the car to be a little wet to aid in lubricating. I find that you use a lot less QD when the car is still a little moist.

After you clay and if you plan on compounding afterwards; then no. The abrasive compounds will remove any residue left. Washing would be a wasted 45mins. Wash, Clay, Compound, LSP.

If you use a Quick Detailer, its so easy to wipe clean; Don't see why you wouldn't wipe it off. Plus I love looking at a side by side of a clay side and non clayed

I don't do a full wash again ... but I will some sort of QD or S&W type product to remove any residue left from the claying. I like to have a clean, dry surface for polishing plus it helps me to see what defects need correction.

So should i wash, dry/moist, clay with lubricant, rinse off QD/lubricant, and completley dry and then start with the polish and then the LSP?

how does that sound

no wash. When I clay, its the only time that I ever manage to get through a wash without any water spots (because I can clay all the spots off).

So no way would I ever wash again unnecessarily after that and destroy all my hard work! (no, I haven't gotten to polishing yet... but if I did, then no, I wouldn't wash since the polish should take care of anything left anyway).

if there is any residue remaining after i clay, i spray some qd and wipe away the excess. then start polishing...

Wash, rinse, clay using wash water, rinse.

When I clay during the wash (which is most of the time), I do a quick rewash after I clay.

So it's: wash; rinse; clay; wash; rinse. That second wash only takes a moment and it helps remove all the clay lube just a little better than merely rinsing. The lube I usually use (Glyde) is mighty soapy and I just feel better having washed it again.

But if it's a serious claying that I'm doing after the wash (which also means I'll be polishing), then I juse try to wipe things down as best I can with a QD and I let the polishing take care of anything that's left.

I still wash after I clay..I get alot of the dry crap or residue from the clay. A simple wash is like 20min and im done and onto the polishing job.

I should re-write mine..since the advent of the foam gun thats what I use.

I usually do a quick wash with my sheepskin over the clayed surfaces - it only takes 6-8 minutes to do a car, you don't need a 45 minute wash.
