Home depot should work..bring the GG with you to test fit before you buy

walmart, HD, lowes, etc...

if you aren't sure that the grit guards will fit, trace and cut one out on a piece of paper and bring it with you...

Any local hardware store will have 5 gallon buckets that will fit with your grit guards perfectly. I prefer the semi-translucent buckets from Lowes as they are clearly marked and allows you to easily see your waterline and also the handles are padded.

Since I use ONR, I no longer need such a large bucket. For my grit guard to fit in my smaller bucket, I used some "snips" (whatever they are called) and trimmed one of the rings off along with about a half inch off each of the four "blades" (whatever you call them). It fits fine now.

I myself tried the HD, Lowes and walmart one and found the walmart to barely fit. The home depot one were too big, The lowes one were to small so the grit guard didn't go all the way to the bottom and the Walmart one at just a little bit bigger then the grit guard and this are the only I found that keep the grit guard down.

Which Lowes bucket did you try? I know they have more than 1 kind of 5 gal. bucket as you can take your pick from a regular one and the semi-translucent one with the padded handle. My grit guard fits perfect with the latter. I've always thought most 5 gal buckets were standard sizes?

I always thought this 2, but after not being able to get my grit guard but 1/2 way in my advanced auto bucket i don't know.

I use a clear 5 gal bucket that has lines to tell you how much liquid is in the bucket - very useful & handy.

I bought this from HD and my GG that I bought from Danase fits like a glove.

I use 3 gallon buckets that I got from US Plastics. They are the same diameter as the 5 gallon but they are shorter. You don't have to fill them up as much (to get the water near the top) so they are lighter (or conversely, if you use the same amount of water you don't have to reach down so far). I've never had a problem with the lower capacity.

I debated on going to 5 gallon buckets, but the 2.5 gallon buckets I use are easy to fill up with warm water at the kitchen sink - kinda important with the weather getting colder. I know I could fill up the small and add to the 5, but is there that big of an advantage?

I felt the grit guard took up so much space at the bottom of the 5 gal. bucket, that it was a waste of the QEW/ONR. Needed to create a lot more solution just to get the solution up beyond the grit guard level. Until the drought is over and I go back to regular washing, I'm preferring a smaller bucket, no grit guard.
