Wash after Polish?

Is it necessary to give the paint a wash after polishing? Can a sealant like AIO be added right after polishing? Does it depend on the polish? I'm doing a beige C230 this weekend and I'm going to use Optimum polish for the first time. I've used SSR2 before and AIO right after and havent seen a durability issue...

The only reason why I would think someone would want to wash after polish is due to excessive dusting. Seeing how Optimum Polish produces little to none dust, I don't think theres a need to wash. AIO is also a paint cleaner so it would remove anything left behind from your previous polish, not that Optimum Polish or Poorboy's SSRs leave behind fillers.

You might want to consider topping AIO with a true wax or sealant, its not the greatest stand alone LSP.

A simple QD should do the trick incase you have a dusting problem. I'd suggest even using some QEW if you have a heavy dusting problem.

Oh, I usually top with S100 or SG...

Good to know that Optimum polish dosent produce that much dust. I've only found SFX-1 to produce a bit of dust...

I have heard of washing after polishing on boats where many of the cleaners and polishes produce quite a bit of dust. I agree that if there is a substantial amount of dust after polishing, then it certainly make good sense to give the paint a wash before applying a sealant.

All you're really going to need after polishing with OCP is an IPA wipedown. after that you should be good to go!

Yea, I've heard of this one...Just a 50/50 IPA/Water mix right? Again, is this something that is really needed? Is it to clean off the polish chemicals or is it to check your work?

I find that OCP leaves a kinda/sorta oily surface after wiping it off. Granted this is probably due to me not polishing long enough, but I would do it anyways. With IPA leaving a bare surface, it allows me to know that i've gotten out all the defects.

Ok, I think this is what I'm trying to find the answer to. I understand the dusting part, and this makes a lot of sense as well. So its not really a question of a sealant or LSP not bonding to the paint, but more of a "check your work/make sure its perfectly clean"...Thanks guys!
