Whats up guys?I have been skimming through the forums for a while now and needed your advice on some products to use and I know this is going to be a matter of prefference but I will try to give as ,much info as I can to narrow it down as fo now this is what I am using and my steps

1 wash with megs using a chenille mit and dry with a ww mf

2 clay with clay magic and soapy water

3 polish with the deep crystal 3 step polish

4 top the polish with nxt

I was thinking of topping that with deep crystal carnuba but, I would like to know what you guys think?

I also would like to use megs if possible since I can get all of their stuff locally at finishmaster, but if you think I should use something else fire away I just want the car to look great .

the car is a 2000 civic with electron blue pearl paint in very good condition and its my daily driver so I need it to hold up !!

thanks inn advance !!!:xyxthumbs

Wash -- Be sure both the strands and the backing of the mitt is 100% cotton. Which Meg's wash are you using? Gold Class shampoo is the only one I recommend. Rich Suds and Deep Crystal Wash just aren't slippery enough.

Clay -- If you're to clay with soapy water, you might as well clay while you wash. Soapy water leaves a mess.

Polish ¡V Deep Crystal Polish is more of a glaze than an abrasive. That's fine, but all it does it temporarily shine and fill in imperfections. A more aggressive product like #9 may be more appropriate for a four year old car.

Wax -- If you "need it to hold up," I think you'll find NXT's level of durability totally unacceptable. I suggest #26 Paste instead, which maintains its qualities much longer. It's cheaper and looks better, too.

Good luck!

Thanks for the help and I am gonna start using the gold class wash and switch over to the #9 and is it possible to top the nxt with the #26?I would also like to know what you would use if you were me like I said I would like to stay with megs but it isnt written in stone .thanks again for the help :up

Yes you can top NXT with #26. Staying with Meguiar's, you could try #80 Speed Glaze, which is a step up in aggressiveness from #9 if you are not having luck with #9. You could also look into 3M PI III Machine Glaze, which is about = to #80.

The paint on the car is in really good shape so I think the #9 will be ok. I will try 9 and if I need something a little bit stronger I will step it up . I will also try topping nxt with the # 26 and see if I like the results .If anyone has any other reomendations feel free to let me know. thanks

sounds like a good plan. i've been in your position before where i used only Meg's cause i could find it locally. :)

can you find Meg's #16 Pro Wax locally, or maybe have finishmaster order it for you? it's a pretty durable wax, and you can also use it to top the NXT. it might last a little longer than the #26. and i've had it on my other mustang for maybe 4 weeks over #7 Show Car Glaze. still beaded and felt somewhat slick. then i went and tried something else. :p

and NXT is good, i've had it last about 3-4 weeks. and since i like washing and waxing my car, i didn't mind having to apply NXT every few weeks or even every other week cause i felt like it. ;) also, do two applications, if possible 12 hours between applications, if not, at least 1 hour between applications.

lastly, post pictures of your results! :xyxthumbs

Thanks alot for the info Hirosh and I just wanted to know you said you used to just use megs what are you using now ?

what i use now:

for polishing, ie swirl/scratch removal, i use Poorboy's SSR 2.5 and SSR 1.

for "glazing" i use Clearkote's Vanilla Moose Hand Glaze.

for sealing i use Poorboy's EX-P, and just got EX w/caranuba.

for wax i have Poorboy's Natty's Wax.

but i still use Meg's products every now and then. it all depends on which car am i doing (mines or my familys) and/or how i feel. i still use the NXT Wash (love the smell) and NXT Protectant on my tires. and i also use Mother's Clay since i can find it almost everywhere.

but yeah, Meguiar's is a good place to start.

siblues- A belated welcome to Autopia. Your plan should work fine. I'll second the preference for #16, but plenty of people like the #26 as a topper and it does "darken"/"richen" some paints.

Thanks alot Accumulator.I think I will have to take a chance and pick up maybe two or three toppers and one or two polishes so I can try them out and see what I like best.I just thought asking everyones opinion would steer me in the right direction which it has . I like the nxt but it only seems to hold up ok and I really want to find a combo that lasts a little longer?I still would like a little more info not that I dont respect everyones choices just doing some research and remember guys this is being applied by hand and the car has a pearl metallic finish thats in really good shape .Thanks again for all the help.

just a suggestion, and something i found helpful for me. check the 'click & brag' section out. this is where member's post the results of their details. it is a good place to get an idea what certain products or combos would look like. also, you could do a search for 'blue' and limit it to the 'click & brag' section to see the other blue cars and what they are using.

well, i look forward to seeing pictures of your car! :)

That sounds like a really good idea I am going to have to try that thanks for the help and as soon as I have some pics I will post them up .
