Want the Rain-X, but not the chatter!

I recently read a post about Rain-X and it's possible cuase for wiper chatter. I am experiencing chatter as well and have Rain-X applied. I love my Rain-X and do not get any hazing. I searched the archives, but none of the posts address keeping the Rain-X and fixing the chatter. Most posts suggest that you remove the Rain-X w/lighter fluid to stop the chatter. Is there anyway to keep the Rain-X and lose the chatter? It rained the other day and I didn't even need to use my wipers on the highway. I would hate to lose that luxury.
 
You're dealing with the very complicated issue of surface chemistry here. The first thing I would suggest is treating your wiper blades with something like 303 Protectant. If that doesn't work, you might want to get a new set of blades. (I use the Bosch Micro Edge Excel--wait, isn't that a Gillette product? :) )



If even that doesn't work, you may want to watch the action of the blades closely. I read a post on another board where a guy fixed his problem by bending (twisting) his wiper arms maybe 15 degrees to help the "flipping" action. He swore by this solution.

Strange, when I had used Rain-X I had no chatter, but did get streaking/smearing/hazing during wiping. :down If anything I'm wondering how Rain-X could cause chatter since it's actually slicker than stuff like Aquapel.



I think treating my blades lightly with dressing has helped my moderate chatter problem with Aquapel though, so you can try that. Surprisingly, it doesn't just wash off at the first rainstorm.
 
There is a product by Armor All called Clear Sight which I have been using for the past year. No chatter, I usually apply 2 coats to my windshield every 3-4 months. Rain slides right off. There have been several heavy rains in which I did not even have to turn my wipers on, period. Great product.

What do you mean by "dressing"? Rubber protectant like Armor-All?

Yes, the regular or low-gloss stuff (not the petroleum distillate containing, clear, ultra-gloss products) made by Armor-All, 303, and practically everyone else too. It seems using too much leaves a smudge of protectant on the windsheild when the blade flips.
 
I use Clearkote's Quikshine (a QD) on my windshield and it works as well as Rain-X and no chatter (I had the same problem with Rain-X also).
