Want a new polisher (DA)........What would you go with?

The Rupes Duetto, and Mini, are nice and powerful. I use the Adams mini for 1" & 2" work, then when I pick up the Rupes the power is remarkable.

Any Cyclo users out there (Accumulator).....any of these machines compare to the cyclo in the area of paint correction?
Eh, I never found the Cyclo all *that* efficient for really aggressive correction, more of a Medium-to-Finishing sort of tool. And yeah, I`ve used it with wool/Sure-Buffs/etc.

I mean, yeah..it`s better than some/?most? PC-type 5"-6" setups and it *is* considered a long-throw, but I sure wouldn`t be surprised if something with a 15mm throw could do major correction a lot faster. My Flex 3401 with its forced rotation simply kills the Cyclo for cutting off paint in a timely manner.

That`d be an interesting comparison IMO...the Cyclo vs. [whatever].

I`m fairly pleased with the cyclo and the right combo of products. I recently did a white Tundra with heavy oxidation. Used M205 and M105 with orange and green pads and it came out super nice.

General Lee- Come to think of it, somehow I`ve never tried M105 via Cyclo, at least not that I recall off-hand.

How does M105`s short work-time work with the Cyclo?

truthfully, skip the XFE7-15, and get a Boss G21 if youre swaying to getting a Longthrow..

I would suggest checking out the Makita PO5000c, Really bad ass tool, its what the flex 3401 should of been.
short stroke, High RPM and High OPM
body is longer then both my 3401 and my G21
out corrects my 3401, never tested it side by side with G21
really smooth, well balanced, no vibration/numbness left in your hands like the 3401...smoother then my G21 and the XFE7-15

Wow, sounds like the makita is quite the machine!

put it this way I`ve been a Huge Longthrow guy, with the 3401, I hated forced rotation..and graduated to its ok, but I wont ever reach for it

new makita, i enjoy using it like my G21 and actually grab it more now..and really don`t need my 75E like I do when i use my G21

just dont plan to use the free spin mode for anything but waxing or clay disc....other then that it stays in forced mode.

ps...Really wish Rupes would update the cyclo with more balls(bigger motor, more torque..more OPM)...and get rid of the flip switch for traditional switch

How does M105`s short work-time work with the Cyclo?

I saw no issues with it. I keep reminding myself "short work time" and try not to work it long. 2-3 passes initially and follow up with 2-3 light pressure passes and be done. I actually like the M205 and M105 combo.

The Duetto and Mini are my main weapons of choice. I have them both set up on my cart, and grab the one I need for the panel I`m working on.

If I had the Cyclo, and wanted something to accompany it, it would probably be a Porter Cable 7424xp, and a set of Microfiber, and the LC purple thin foamed wool for heavy cutting, and some foams for general cutting, polishing, and finishing work. Maybe get pads and plates in the 3", 5", and 6" sizes.

It also depends on the type of work you`re doing. I can use the pc even in the production environment, without any complaints. Also, the PC is at home with the weekend warrior, or the casual user just looking to take care of their household vehicles. It also makes a great carpet scrubber for interiors.

The Griot`s is similar. Smoother, quieter, more robust, but I`m fine with the PC. We have a gg6 at the shop, and I still prefer the PC for some reason.

General Lee- Ah, thanks for that feedback about the work-time. Might give it a go next time I have a large panel to really correct (which, fingers crossed, might not ever happen again).

And just like danlc95 with his appreciation of the PC, your appreciation of M205 is so different from *my* opinion that it just goes to show how different people can have totally different preferences about this stuff so it pays to ask (and to hope that lots of different responses come up).

nothingface5384- I simply *love* the old post-style toggle switch on mine (bet that`s just from decades of familiarity). Can`t imagine getting used to the flat switch they`re using now, I`d hate that for sure.

I love the old post style toggle switch on mine as well. I`ve been using my cyclo for well over ten years now, not nearly as long as you. Even though I`m looking for a new polisher, my cyclo ain`t going no where.

I also have the old PC 7424. Don`t care for it except for applying wax.

The original PC 7424P/7336SP DA polisher is a classic, back in 2003 when there was only the PC, Cyclo and rotaries that detailers had in their arsenal.
I remember searching everywhere to find one at an affordable price. If you look on eBay the old PC costs the same or more than the newer XP versions ...LoL

My go to polisher for years has been my Cyclo. It is a work horse but looking for something else to add to the mix. With all the new DA`s out there (Flex, Rupes, etc) what seems to be best one out there these days? I want one that is capable of doing good paint correction.
Depending on the correction needed. A 3401 works great or a Boss/Rupes 15 w/ a m/f pad works great & is going to be smoother.

Heh heh, being used to a Cyclo, getting a PC was basically buying a big paperweight. The diff in performance was simply shocking. Don`t expect the PC to do the same kind of work. I`d sure want to get something with *at least* equal corrective ability.

The Flex 3401 (which I have/like) is kinda at the other end of the user-friendliness spectrum compared to the Cyclo :D

I expect that the Cyclo + Rupes Mini will be my go-to combo, though I do still consider [somebody`s] 15mm unit.

Just need to add a Boss/Rupes 15 now......
