<strong class='bbc'>Just for giggles, I would do the Subaru. But since I am a man of large stature, I need something with more room. Therefore, a Maxima SE will do just fine. [/b]</blockquote>
I'm 6'3" and just shy of 300 lbs, and I fit in my WRX better than any car I've owned for the last 10 years. The interior is downright cavernous for a car of its exterior size, and the height adjustable seat actually drops far enough to keep my hair off the roof AND provide room for a helmet. If anyone out there is, um, "gravitationally-challenged" like me and considering a WRX, don't assume you won't fit; try it on for size.
Another poster indicated that the WRX wasn't very "modifiable" because it already runs fairly high boost. The thing is, the number you see advertised is peak boost, with the ECU constantly fiddling a boost control solenoid to take boost away at high rpm. Stock, you only see that 14 psi for a short period of time before the ECU decides you're having too much fun, and begins to bleed down to around 9 psi. Solution: manual boost controller, set to stock peak boost pressure. I now get 14-15 psi all the time (well within the stock fuel system's capabilites), and it's a completely different car. This is prior to addressing the THREE catalytic converters in the exhaust; I plan to do just a catback in the near future, then upgrade the exhaust completely (one hi-flow cat, 3") after the warranty is gone.
Bottom line, turbo cars are almost always easier/cheaper to mod, because exhaust and intake mods are so effective. A nice 3" from the turbo back, open up the intake, and tweak the boost to 16 psi (doable on stock fuel system, from what I've read), and you have a nice bump in hp and torque. If you're not the DIY-type, and want bolt-ons and proven performance, Cobb Tuning is offering two performance kits, one to bump the car to 280 hp (already available), another (to be released shortly) to 320 hp:

Sorry to ramble . . . if you can't tell, I like my WRX
