Walmart for mounting & balancing tires?

One more thing when you see tons of wheel weights this screams "quicky balance" a good tech will not need more than 5.5 ounces of wheel weights(Usually....)

Yeah, I've seen this on a few --high end--vehicles that had their work done exclusively at dealerships; luckily never happened to me personally. Raises a legitimate concern of the safety of the whole thing if it was done so sloppily.

If a "respected dealership" can't do the job competently, and the independent shops are considered a cut below in quality in one's area, one is really between a rock and hard place when it comes to a (supposed to be assumed to be) simple tire change and mount. I'm going to try to not worry prematurely.:(

Great info Bob! They never got that indepth about wheel balancing in my ASE classes.

Wonder how in-depth they get when training most of the guys who mount and balance for a living ;)

The Walmart in Dry Ridge, KY did a nice job repairing a flat and remounting and balancing a tire for me when I was on a trip.

I would never take a car to walmart for any kind of work. I refuse to even go in that store unless i have to. I would rather spend a few extra doller and give my money to another local small business. Plus if you go in give them a card they might send some business your way.

Worst thing about Walmart...

:LOLOL I get those People of Walmart e-mails often as well. In FL the folks tend to look like that, but picture elderly, shrivled up versions of them and toss in walkers, canes, and Jazzy scooters!

I wouldn't do this unless you're pretty savvy with cars, but here's a good resource for mounting and balancing tires yourself: Mounting & balancing tires yourself - Ninja250Wiki.

I had a friend who did this for his 2010 Toyota Camry and it seemed to work out pretty well. Still, if you have any doubts...go with the pros.

As someone that has mounted countless motorcycle tires, I can assure you its a total PITA. Bike guys do it because bike shops charge ~$50 a tire. Car places charge $10-30. At those rates, its not even worth thinking about doing it yourself. I'd rather spend 8 hours working in fast food than changing 4 car tires.
