Waffle Weave not as absorbent after wash?

I bought some of the VROOM drying towels from Target and loved them when I first got them. I have noticed that they push the water around and do not soak it up anymore. I wash all my MF's together and typically use pretty high heat to dry them. I use DP Microfibre Restorer to wash them in with vinegar in a rinse ball.

I am thinking that I need to wash the drying towels seperatly and get a dedicated rinse ball for the MF's. There could be some fabric softener getting mixed in with the vinegar. That, plus the high heat (now understanding that MF's are more plasctic than actualy material) may have damaged them.

Thanks for all the input guys!!

You are correct in that the HIGH heat is more than likely what is killing them, it's melting the fibers.

I use these on a daily basis, and have had the same problem. I found the trick though: rinse them really well before you use them. I literally hold my pressure washer gun in one hand and the w.w. towel in the other until its soaked. YOu almost have to "wake" it up. Works great every time. Even this morning in 28 degree weather (until ice started to form on the car while trying to dry it...)

It's not contamination. These towels are unfortunately just a giant waste of money. I bought 3 and all 3 now repel water better than they absorb it. My DD ones work great. Always washed them separate, with only MF restore.

Agree, I just don't get the whole waffle weave thing for drying. I would much rather have a big, plush, eqyptian cotton towel from Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Cotton is still the most absorbent fiber out there and it makes quick use of wateron a car.

I have three of the guzzlers, and have had some of the same issue you had, but after a very thorough washing in the machine they work again. But only as a pat dry method, not a swipe dry method.

I washed on heavy cycle with my own home made detergent (filtered water, borax, washing powder mix, works great for the last year and a half). Then did an extra rinse cycle, low heat dry. Works well.

And FYI they are the Guzzler HD line.

I too kinda prefer the absorption of cotton over the adsorption of MF. Just be careful that the cotton doesn't instill micromarring, which I've had happen even with the softest of 100% cotton textiles (which is why I use WWMFs these days).

But no argument from me; when cotton *is* paint-safe-soft it's really nice.
