W-64 BP only for Mirror Glaze pads?

Well, I have been waiting for my 5" rotary backing plate before I did any more details. It just came but before I even took it out of the plastic, I notice a bump on the bottom of the backing plate. There is a solid plastic or metal cylinder attached to the pad side of the backing plate. Whats the deal? I was planning on using this with my 5.5" LC CCS pads. Autogeek's site says nothing about the bp being limited to Meg's 6.5" Mirror Glaze pads. So, am I screwed?

Here is a link to the product being discussed:

Meguiars Rotary Buffer W-64 Backing Plate 5"

Only on the actual packaging does it say "For 6.5" Mirror Glaze Pads"

I would try to see if it unscrews but I have left it in the package with hopes of returning it. If someone can confirm that the centering cylinder can in fact be removed, then I will do so. Thanks for the reply.

Thanks Al, but that thread only explains how to install a Meg's pad and doesn't address the issue of using a flat, no hole pad. I contacted someone at AG but haven't heard back from them.

Sent you a PM back on the forum, just waiting for your response so we can contact you.

Thank you.

Well, I just got off the phone with Meghan(thanks for the call, GREAT customer service!) and we got it all straightened out. I removed the backing plate from the package and was able to unscrew the centering post so everything is good. Thanks again for the great service Meghan! And thanks to you guys for the suggestions, you were right again.
