Vw R32?

So what's your take on the '08 R32s? Are they pointless due to their low power, high weight, and relative small size? Or are they simply a more tame, refined, and efficient car compared to other AWD sports vehicles that may be similar in price and offer more power?

Short list of specs, they've got 250hp, 4Motion AWD, a 6 speed DSG gearbox(complete with flappy paddles!), available only in a 2 door, and then the requisite sport seats, appearance, etc.

What do you guys think?

G37x, although slightly more expensive, is much faster, full RWD that turns into AWD when you need it, and has a much nicer interior. 330hp, more tq, 7 speed(auto only unfortunately), and around a 5.1 0-60. :xyxthumbs

I don't see any real reason to get a R32, but that's just my opinion.

What if the R32 in question was 22k for a car with like 8k miles on it? tbh, I haven't found anything even close to that price that's like it. I've always liked the GTI (and hatches in general), and the AWD is a big plus for me. Plus it's damn hard to find an A3 with Quattro.

I figure that the R32 should be cheaper to insure and better on gas than something like the Magnum SRT8. Definitely not as fast, but should get less attention, and probably similar interior size. Interior quality will be better in the R32, and it's AWD so it'd be harder to lose control of.

It's too bad the A3 didn't come with the 2.0t and Quattro until 09, those are still too expensive :(

The 08's are not bad, but I think the newer style is so so looking. I loved the style of the 04's way much better. I almost bought an 04 for 28k brand new, but decided to hold off on buying one. A week later they were all sold out and the used prices went up to 30-34k. I still can not believe how well the 04 held it's book value so high for so long.

I have not driven an 08, but the couple 04's I have driven were a ton of fun and it's a car that you wanna drive and not get out. The engines were the nastiest sounding 6 bangers I have ever heard, especially with a modded exhaust.

The 08's only come in auto DSG and did not come in 6 speeds and that was a bummer. I know 2 people who have them and they love them.

They handle superb!

I'm too lazy for a manual, so the DSG is perfect for me :) They really do sound sweet for a 6 cylinder. Even stock that engine screams at you.

The car really seems very weird, it's an efficient, yet aggressive hatchback. Not the fastest, but has some luxury touches making it almost like an Audi.

I've heard the 04s held value really well, but seems like the 08s haven't as much. Not really too sure why. I guess 250hp in the car just isn't as fast as the car was back then?

I think I found the better value, coming this summer.

No, it's not an Evo wagon, but damn close. It's a Ralliart wagon. But this time, they don't suck. They're got the same engine as the Evo X just with a smaller turbo. I can fix that! Same AWD as the Evo (IX this time, not the X - kinda weird but that's OK), same DSG as the Evo X too. It'll even have the intelligent key to go with the flappy paddles! It might even come with Recaro seats for the front!

XRL- As I've probably posted a hundred times, some of the most satisfying cars I've had were "underpowered" or otherwise scoffed at...but I simply *loved* using them day-in, day-out. And some of the *least* satisfying cars were the really high performance ones that everybody thinks are so wonderful. Buy whatever *you* like, for whatever reasons *you* like it.
