Vw paint is really this hard.

Are the pads we're talking about here Lake Country exclusively? I've got Propel pads. I used Menzerna IP as well with my yellow pad at speed 6. It did nothing whatsoever to any of the swirls on my MKIV. I spent a whole Saturday morning trying out different speeds, working it slowly, working it faster, using less product, using more product. Nothing I tried worked out, unfortunately. The swirls are still there, just somewhat covered now with a glaze. :(

PG is NOT too aggressive. Some might argue that it is rotary only as for seeing good results, but after having learned how to use the PC to its max with PG...it works. Bear down on the PC. A good Rule of Thumb is that you should not be able to see the pad actually spinning as for pressure. .5-1" of movement per inch and only 3 dime size spots on the pad after it has been primed per 2x2 area. You should see results.

Since this was my first time with the PC, it was a learning process for me as well. I noticed the best results using a decent amount of pressure. The cutting pad was pretty warm after a section with OC. Overall im really happy with the results since this was my first time. I to find someone with a camera now since mine are all broke.

The other day I literally had to pull the pad off to let it cool down as smoke was coming off......pretty hot! But I got them dang-on swirls out!!!!

Did VW change their paint hardness? Last time I worked on my friend's Jetta, it responded very well to Mother's Power Polish, Poorboy's SSR 2.5 and SSR1. I think her car is either an 2000 or a 2001.

Im pretty sure 03+ or late 02 went to a scratch resistant clear. That is the difference.

Could be. I also think it had to do with who was actually building the car. My 99 Passat V6 (built by Audi) has the Audi paint which is noticeably different from the same year's Jetta and Golf. The Beetle (built on the A3 platform..also built by Audi) had the same paint as the Passat. But now, it's all the same. Trickledown dontcha know. :hifive:

well, the orange pad an MPP isn't cutting it. It is getting rid of some minor things and leaving the finish ready for LSP's but...still have some swirling left. It looks a lot better than before, but I am going to have to get some yellow pads and SSR2.5 next.

oh and btw, first time using PC...awesome!! this thing is a breeze to use, tried ot several pressures, speed etc and it is great! I put a black marker mark on the back of the pad to gauge spinning speed.

Also MPP is easy to use and I am guessing would be a graet product on softer clearcoats.

Well back to work, going to apply Mothers reflections wax with my finshing pad.

Glad you like the PC! Don't forget to step down your pads and polishes as you work towards LSP. I think it makes more of a difference using a rotary, but some of the marring you still see will lessen (hopefully disappear) as you switch to a white pad and polish or and orange pad and light polish. Have fun!
