VW and Audi

I'm new to all this; I've never done a detail before.

I have a 2001 VW Beetle that has never been detailed and is in tough shape. I don't expect I'll get it perfect; there are real scratches, dents, etc. My question is: as far as I know, you are not supposed to use a PC or Flex on plastic bumpers, so what do you use? Also, the fenders on the Beetle are also plastic, so am I only using an orbital on the roof, doors, hood, and trunk?

Also, I have an Audi that is in pretty good shape but could use some perfecting, so what is the best product for this car? Should I use Meguiars #80, since I'm new?

Thanks for your patience.

I dont think you will have any issues using the pc on your vehicle... Post some pics and we can all provide some good feedback.

I've used a PC with 4" pads and SIP on my 2001 GTI (including bumpers) with no problems. It's with a rotary you should be careful on plastic parts.

Welcome to Autopia!

You've been misinformed. It's perfectly safe to use the PC/ec. on the plastic parts of your car, I've been doing it since forever. I've even used a rotary on them, just gotta be a *little* careful. It sounds like you're gonna be approaching this cautiously so I'm quite certain you won't have any problems.

Also, I have an Audi that is in pretty good shape but could use some perfecting, so what is the best product for this car? Should I use Meguiars #80, since I'm new?

The #80 is *VERY* gentle and never did much of any correction on any of my Audis. But it'll spruce things up a bit and there's zero chance you'll do any damage, so it's not a bad choice. If (more like when ;) ) you want to do some real correction you can always get something more aggressive.

Thank you for the responses.

Happily, I was misinformed on the Beetle; I can at least make some strides toward making it look respectable. Also, the Audi looks to be in pretty good condition for an '05 (the dealership's wax job is just starting to wear off); once I get it cleaned thoroughly I can do a proper evaluation.

Thanks again.
