vroom microfiber towels - less plush?

I just joined autotopia after reading all the comments about microfiber. I am involved with the development of many of the products you see on the shelf under several different brands. I am always trying to improve product or create new items and wanted to engage in more open discussions with end users.

Your comments about VROOM® having different grades is correct as all the items are intended for different purposes or customer markets. That being said, within each UPC number we try very hard to maintain quality and item specifications. Products are tested monthly, and we constantly checked at the store level for inconsistencies

There is so much I could input on why each cloth is placed in the store and what went into the concept but I would love to hear back with more specifics on problems, experiences, and new applications.

More specifically on the VROOM® line we created the following:

5 pk, 12 pk Same material 14x14in 31g per piece

8 pk, 12 pk Premium 16x16in 56g piece

20 pk value 11x15 200g/sq meter (lighter weight)

2pk Grey Detail hanging 58g or more with 2 different sides ( my favorite, similar to the drying towel)

then there is polishing, glass, drying and others. Hope this helped a bit

At target, I saw the gray ones in 14x14 and 16x16 4pcs/pk. I was actually going to weigh them (gray vs orange) when I got a chance to see if there was any different.

Thanks for stopping by, Rob, and glad you found us on Autopia!

Initially, I was under the impression that the grey and orange towels were the same thing, just different colors so you could differentiate your towels for different jobs (ie use your orange ones on the body and your gray ones on the wheels). So I was a bit worried when my latest orange set seemed so thin. I was afraid Vroom had started to cheap out on us. But now I know I just need to check out the gray ones.

Love to hear anything you have to share on microfiber. Personally, I just love being able to get decent towels without paying an arm and a leg. I've had nothing but good experiences with them. No scratching and no linting issues to speak of. Great towel at a great price.

Hi Rob62,

Welcome to the boards and glad to have you here!

Just a quick question for you. I picked up the 4pk of Gray detailing towels yesterday and was wondering about the care instructions. Do you prefer the towels to be washed in warm or cold water to keep them plush? It states warm water but i've read around the boards that most wash in cold water. I just want to lengthen the life of my towels. Thanks for the info!

Thanks to each of you on the words of welcome. I'm not sure how to specifically answer each question but I will work out that from an experienced autopia user tomorrow.

About the care from Infinite1: I know there is a great deal said about the care of the towels but common sense prevails; wash cold rinse cold... lasts longer than HOT, HOT. Its always a trade off on wear vs cleanliness. We actually have commercial laundries washing towels in over 180F. beats the hell out of the towel but like bleaching terry its clean.

I'm working with a research team in Korea to come up with some common formulas that we can pass out on water temp, dry temp and times and even best cleaners. The key is to clean without clogging up the fibers with residue ( soap or other).

At home I'm using warm, warm cycle with Seventh Gen soap, and an extra rinse. I dry in a gas dryer (high temp) and separate from other materials to avoid lint. This is just my personal experience however I intend to post the formulas as soon as they are available. We should be adding it to the packaging next season.

just between me and this whole big group I like the car drying towel the best. In my 18 years in the industry it was the first towel i ever used that could dry a car completely without wringing out the towel. We are also makers of AQUADRY® and that PVA chamois will always have a place in my heart (my wife came up with the name) but the microfiber is the best drying towel on the market. Destroys waffle towels for absorbency.

Happy detailing!

Funny you say that because that's my favorite towel as well, except I don't use it for drying, because it's so plush I use it to buff out wax residue. I wouldn't use it for this duty with waxes that are harder to come off but for waxes like CG 50/50, S100, SynWax, etc, this is the perfect towel for the task.

Rob,

Thanks for the input! Glad to hear i'm washing them correctly. I usually wash in cold water, extra rinse with Tide liquid..hmm...d'oh i think it has fabric softener....:faint:

In regards to the Drying towel...I was actually thinking about picking that up but wasn't sure. Glad to hear it's good. Anyone else out there have experience with it? Thanks!

while using the vroom apc today, i thought about some of their products and decided to visit their website. sure enough, it looks like it's gone... :nixweiss
