Volvo XC70 AWD detail

Hello Everyone! Today was a nice day to detail. I had originally planned to do 2 details today, the volvo, and a 91 crown vic but reasons I will tell you about slowed me down, so the CV is next week. The detail was done on gravel so that was no fun all the way through. It was a big mess. Also all the polishing was done in direct sunlight which made rotary polishing almost impossible, and very dangerous. I didnt snag pics of the engine or interior so I will just post the exterior process:

Washing

-Wash with Hi Temp bubbling suds / foam gun, B&D pressure washer assist.
-Meguiars Clay / Meguiars Last Touch DS 1:1 lube. (alot of clay marring?)

-Wheels Cleaned with Meguiars Wheels Brightener 1:1 , and megs brushes.
-Wheel Wells cleaned with wheel brightener 1:1, pressure washer assist.

Paint

-(Hood = RIDS) Hi Temp Xtreme Cut via Meguiars 6" yellow polishing pad @1200
-(Hood) Menzerna FPII via meguiars 6" light cut beige pad.
-Optimum Polish via Meguiars 6" yellow polishing pad @1200
-Poorboys PwS
-Pinnacle Souveran
-Constant S&G to remove dust and pollen

MISC:

-A.M. Super Dressing 3:1 in weels
-Meguiars Hyper Dressing 3:1 on trim and wheels
-Poorboys WS on wheels
-S&G to finish off windows

Lessons learned:

-Working of Gravel Sucks
-Working in Direct Sunlight Sucks

On a good note however the clients I worked for are amazing poeple and very hospitable. They asked many times if I needed water or if I wanted any lunch. There countless encouraging compliments kept me going.

Yup, I keep my MF's in the gravel so they are easily accessable when I want to use them on the paint. :D JK. Those towels were in the front seat so I wouldnt get the mat dirty, so I just threw them on the ground when I was done using them, They are crap anyway.

It wasnt to horrible to start with. I would say the swirls were just medium. The polishing however brought the paint to life.

There is something to be said about encouragement from the owner when detailing. More often than not when the owner stands around (often times offering to help) while I am detailing I end up doing the detail for nothing. Having them involved with the process gives them an appreciation of the work that is involved. Good thing that I do not do details just for the money.

The last picture is a great shine and reflection shot.

The Meguiar's brushes must really work well. That is one clean tire. Nice job!!

Do you have more info on the clay marring? Do you get this alot? This is something i am always concenrned with.

Im pretty sure I had clay marring because I had alot of super fine mar's in the shape of my clay. I used alot of lube and a meguiars mild overspray clay. Im wondering if I didnt kneed it enough or if it just a little more abrasive. FWIW if your polishing right after it, it shouldnt matter, because the mar's are so fine they polish out easily.

Kirk - Its very rewarding indeed. Thanks for the comments. The meguiars wheel brightener and brushes make for a very clean wheel.

Whoa, The reflections in the 1st two shots are insane!

Another fantastic detail Greg!

That must have felt like a short day at the office vs. the limos you've been detailing :)

:D :howdy Great job on the XC70!! As that is going to be my next car. Some info about the engine: 2.5 liter 5 cylinder engine, turbo charged, and about 200 horsepower. What year is the XC70?? Was there any trouble spots or pointers when washing it? I hope the customer was thrilled at the work u did.

thast stunning work like always. But ya why does this person have there block heater pluged in? it can cant be that cold. But nice work again

The story with the cord is, the clients wife dropped the keys and turned on a light to find them, I didnt know this. so the battery went dead. It charged up and was ok.

It was really a nice car to wash with no problems at all. Its a beautifully designed car.

Mgm- thanks! Yes it is easier than the limo's which I dont detail anymore. The short story of that is, they had trouble when it came time to write the check. I had to stop doing work for them.
