no I'm not looking to buy either but this morning driving the kids to school there was an accident we passed...it was between the back of a Volvo wagon and the front of a Camry...:bigscream :eek

I wish I had a camera:mad:

the front of the Camry was demolished...glass everywhere, radiator leaking, bumper hanging off.....

:wait the Volvo...had a dented bumper:nono

Just couldn't believe the lack of damage on the Volvo...JGV ..now i understand why you have one:)

saw one between a Jeep Liberty and an Acura TL - Liberty not a scratch TL not so much :( - I own a TL-S :(

I'm on my third Volvo. The other two were sedans, this one's a wagon. Goofy and slow, but built like a brick sh*t house!

Last summer, on my way home, a Pontiac Bonneville appeared out of nowhere right in front of me with her brake lights on and:car :wall BAM! I hit her in the rear end doin about 35mph, tore her bumper off, knocked her lights out, the put her on a flatbed for the ride home. My Swedish brick had a slightly bent up hood, a busted headlight, some scuffs on the top of the bumper (I submarined when I stood on the brakes,) and that was it. Luckily, neither one of us was hurt, and I was able to drive home (with a ticket, of course.)

Went to my Volvo mechanic and for $50, I tore a hood, light assembly and a quarter panel off a parts car, and now she's as good as new.

As for the Bonneville, $2300 in damage. Thank God for Volvo's and insurance.:headbang

Our '96 850 GLT (150k miles) is our first venture into the land of Volvo. Bought it new, paint still looks amazing, drives/handles like a dream, probably the best seats I have ever sat in. Best of all, the wife was rear-ended by a Suburban. She was sitting still waiting to turn left. The Suburban was going at least 35 (driver acknowledged he was distracted by his daughter in the rear seat and never braked - he could have been going 50) and the wife was not injured and the damage to the Volvo was amazingly insignificant based on the collision. Years later it continues to be a rock solid car and one of the best vehicle buys we have ever made. I can't say enough good things about this car.

I don't disagree that Volvo makes some of the safest cars on the road. However, notwithstanding what you witnessed, I think Toyota makes a solid car. Last year, I nailed a BMW (old 5 series) that took a U turn in front of me. The front of the BMW was misalined after the accident, water was leaking from the radiator, and it sounded like the fan was hitting something. The damage to my car was pretty minimal compared to the speed I was travelling (approx. 40 before I put the clamps on). It still amazes me how well anti-lock brakes work.

I know the above is useless without pics., so here are some pictures.

Sorry the last one was kinda big, hopefully this one is a little smaller.

I'm sold on the safety of this car.

Volvo is deffinitely one very solid car, but ever since Ford's recent involvement into the company I have to say they have become average, the older ones are VERY sturdy, I would take a 90-95 any day with the turbo! Ford messes everything up! but then gm destroyed Saab so.......

I agree, it's tricky now-a-days to figure out which car companies do not share platforms with other car manufactuers. Ford = Mazda, Jaguar & Volvo. GM = Saab & Subaru. Renault = Nissan. Not to mention Mercedes/Chrysler.
