Volvo S60 R Detail - Day 1

Well, here goes, this is my first detail post on here. I've had this car for a year and a half, I bought it with 21K on it and it now has 40K on it. I THINK I did a clay bar and Zaino treatment right after I bought it, but nothing but washes and detail sprays with each wash since then. I'm actually surprised, there is little to no correction to be done on it. But, so far today, I simply Dawn washed, IPA wipe down, Griot's Clay Bar with Speed Shine as Lube, another IPA wipe down. That's it for today, I'm waiting on my Blackfire kit to come via the UPS man tonight, then tomorrow is a full detail day. I have to run 17 miles prior to detailing, so I'll be burning the calories tomorrow, thankfully the garage has A/C. Anyway, here is how it sits this afternoon, ready for polish.

I know I'm not going to be as good as most on here in both the detailing and the documentation of the work, but I'll give it a shot.

Any tips before I go to work tomorrow are welcome along with thoughts/criticism/whatever.

Thanks guys, wish me luck tomorrow.

Dang kids and marathon training is really cutting into my detail time. Normally I'd have been up and started before the sun and been done and relaxing with a brewski by now. Now, I have to squeeze in 8 miles before 6:30, take a kid to daycare, go to the Dr. and have him tell me my cholesterol is too high (still), before I can even get started and tomorrow I have to wait until I pound the pavement for 17 miles before I can start. I really need to prioritize.

On the bright side, I am giddy about my UPS package coming tonight with my Blackfire kit in it (even though my UPS driver tells me every time I see him that Volvos are expensive to work on). I can't wait to try it:hurray:

Don't worry, the giddiness never stops for the UPS truck. I'm old and retired and I still sit on the front porch and wait like a kid!!!:hurray:

HO HO HO!!!

Okay, two more questions.

1. When applying BFWD with my 7424, do I need to work sections and remove, or can I do the whole car and then remove?

2. How long between coats or Should I put on multiple coats? I'm applying in my conditioned garage and will keep it around 72*.

Believe it says to wait overnight or at least 8 hours for the first coat to cure before you apply a 2nd.
That is a beautiful color paint on an equally beautiful Volvo; love those wheels too!
Good luck with this - its going to amaze you!

Awesome, I've just recently gotten into the Volvos, the R was the first. But, if you can get past some of Volvo's quirks, they are fantastic cars and I can rest easy when my wife drives around with my two kids knowing they are safe. That XC90 is unreal, safety-wise. To put Volvo safety in perspective, before these two, we had a 2002 Lincoln LS and a 1999 GMC Z71 Extended cab. Our insurance went DOWN about $350 a year when we got these Volvos. I am driving a 300hp AWD rocket and my insurance goes DOWN??? If you get time watch some youtube videos on the XC's rollover tests, it's nothing short of amazing.

Anyway, detail is done, pictures are coming. The Blackfire Wet Diamond??? In a word, UNREAL!!! I'm flat out floored by the stuff, hell, the weight of the microfiber towel took it off, crazy stuff.

Thats a kewl looking car and i really nice color.
Good Luck on the Blackfire application, think thin, thin, thin, thin coats!!

Okay, so I've basically resorted to the fact that I need to take special ed camera class, so instead of trying to get cool shots like you guys get that show the perfection of the paint, I just went and had a little photo shoot after the detail. All in all, I'm VERY happy, the Blackfire products are everything I've read about on here and more, very good stuff. I probably put the Wet Diamond on a bit thick, but it still came off with ease. Well, here you go.

Arsenal: The Powerball was used on the inside of the rims after removal and the Best of Show Was was used on the rims. VERY good wax.

LOVE my rims, but holy crap they are soft. The rims were removed and cleaned along with the wheel wells.

And, here are some of the clear bra, this thing is fantastic!! Granted, you will always see the line on the hood, but only if you're looking for it. The guys that did the bumper just knocked it out of the park, it's PERFECT. The only thing I screwed up on is waiting as long as I did as there are a few minor chips and stuff. I will put this on every car I own from here on out.

I've seen all the volvo video's i ever want towatch LOL i've been working for volvo for close to 31 years.I was a crew chief on the only volvo sponsored Pro-mod that was built around a 89 780.First and last of it's kind.I can say i've only owned two volvo's in all those years .They are and always be a great car they just don't have all the fancy bells and whistles people seem to like on the other hand the new xc60 is cutting edge read about that volvo if you like volvo's

That's awesome man. Yeah, Volvo has always concentrated on Safety first, then designed the car around that. They are catching up now with their BLIS system, their adaptive cruise, their adaptive headlights that turn with you (wife's XC90 has this and it's bad a$$).

The XC60? You just mentioned my next car, when the R needs replaced, which I'm not sure I will get rid of it, this might be my car I hang onto for years and pass it down, especially if they never make a true R again......anyway where was I? Oh yeah, the XC60, my next car will be the XC60 R-Design, they are so cool, I can't resist. I know there are cooler cars out there than Volvos, but as long as I'm choosy, I'd like to continue to buy them, I just really feel safe in them and they are very, very solid cars. to Volvo.

I just hope Ford doesn't sell them to some Chinese company, now THAT will make me mad.

OK enough about the car company Boo Hoo(hahahahaahaahah) WHAT DID YOU THINK OF THE BFWD?????:toetap05:

Did you think you made the right choice in your LSP?:White Horse:

Are you happy with the BFWD? is the finished product all you thought it would be? Was the stuff easy to work with in both application and removal?

Hit us up with your thoughts on the products......:D

VERY impressed with the Blackfire products, by far the best/easiest product I've ever used. I was floored by how easily the WD came off and I'm pretty sure I put it on too heavy too.

The polish for me was okay, but I think I needed something with a little more cut, there are still a number of areas with minor spiderwebbing that I thought it would take care of.

Oh and the gloss enhancer spray is fabulous!! It makes the paint sooooo smooooth and it smells great. Just great products overall.
