VM by Hand or PC?

Just got my VM yesterday and I'm dying to try it. My first thought is, WOW, it's very thin. So I was a little worried that it might be too thin for application by PC. I was going to use my black finishing pad.

What will achieve the best results, PC or Hand?

PC with a polishing pad and crank it up to 6. VM soaks into the pad very quickly and you don't get any product fling.

VM by Hand or PC?

Heh heh, when I first saw this I wanted to respond "yes" :D

Yeah, use the polishing pad instead of the finishing one unless you're dealing with some *very* clean, unusually soft paint. The polishing pad won't cause any problems and is less likely to get gummed up with the VM and whatever it cleans off. I used a white "finger" polishing pad on the super-soft XJS lacquer and it worked out great.

Keep shaking the bottle every time you apply it to the pad so it doesn't start to re-separate on you.

I just did my car by hand and it turned out awesome.

Now, if I had PC pads on hand, I certainly would of used them.

BTW..you guys post on used "white" pad, etc...whose product line of pad are you referencing ?

I have noticed different pads/colors depends on manufacturer, i.e., Sonus, TOL variety, etc.

Regards,

it'll work great either by hand or PC. i've used VM more for a glaze than for cleaning, and have done both methods. the one time i tried it with a PC and a polishing pad, it looked like it was creating more micro-swirls, but that could have been more my error than anything. so i now use it with a PC and a finishing product, and it works great. i don't have to use a lot, maybe a couple "splashes" for the first few times, then just a few drops afterwards.

regarding pad colors, it is different between manufacturers, but the Lake County pads are the ones where yellow - cutting pad, white - polishing pad, grey - finishing pad.

I was more interest in it's glazing properties than it's cleaning/polishing ability, so I used the black (grey) finishing pad. Very pleased with the results.

A couple of observations:

1) I think I used about two tablespoons to do the entire car. This bottle is gonna last a LOOOONG time.

2) Yes, it separates within a few seconds and I had to close/shake it for each application.

3) I had used SSR2.5 and SSR1 before I applied the VM and the SSR1 left the surface very bright. The VM kinda mellowed it out a touch and slightly darkened the color (paint color is white). Somthing I may not have noticed if the color wasn't white.

It did a good job of 'smoothing' out the surface and filling some of those fine swirls. I like it!

Interesting about the micromarring. I dunno if I'd blame user-error, there's not much of a learning curve to VM. Must just be your paint, though I'm sorta  about how it could do that on your car and not on my Jags (softest modern auto paint I've ever worked).
