Vm + #26

Can someone help me with this? I applied #26 paste over VM. OR at least tried too, it just smeared.

I thought 26 would bond over VM, why shouldn't it?

Its a good combo, its just that with VM alone you have too many oils. Add the #26 and you are more than surely going to need to do a final QD wipe...

^^^ vm was applied with meg's yellow wax applicator

#26 was also applied with meg's yellow wax applicator

joyride, the final qd wipe is the least of my worries...#26 did not bond to vm

#26 just smeared around, 90% stayed on the applicator...i even checked the paint under 3 seperate types of lights, and no wax on the paint to buff off

this is the first time ive used both of these products together tho...i must be doing something wrong??

Sorry, I guess I don't understand the situation...

Are you putting enough wax on the applicator? When you say smear, isn;t that the product going to the paint?

did you wipe of the vm before applying #26?
Yea, I buffed it off with a tornado mf and #34

^^^joyride...maybe i have the terminology wrong...basically, im having the same problem as when you apply sealant over a glaze with lots of oils.

is it really cold?
well, it was warm in my garage which is heated to about 15 C, I guess about 45 F...but yes, the wax was very cold, it had sat in my car for the afternoon. And its -7 C here today.

that may have been the problem sounds like the wax was frozen
I know this may sound like a stupid question, but anyhow...

How do I tell if its frozen? I mean, its a paste. It 'seemed' like it was hard to get wax on the applicator, but this is also my first time using #26, so Im new to its consistency.

But if this combo works for you guys, and the cold seems to be the only variable in my approach, then Ill try it warmer next time!

Thanks guys!

You may have used too much VM, it can smear a bit when you try to remove it and if you don't see it before you wax, it will smear or streak. Next time, after you wipe off VM, look at the car in good light and QD if you see any smears, then wax. #26 does need time to haze, btw. Apply it to the whole car before removing.

If you want to be sure, you can try applying half of your boot with VM+#26 and the other half with only #26. This might give you a pretty good idea whether VM or #26 is giving you some problem. The important thing to remember is, apply only a thin layer for both VM and #26.

I tried to apply thin, but maybe thats it. I have a few bottles of #34 on hand, Ill use that to check the VM.

Gen2, good suggestion on the half vm+26 and half #26...

Alot of good suggestions, I should be able to figure this out this wknd. Thanks again! Ill post the results.
