vinyl/door scuffs?

just wondering what you guys do in order to get door scuffs out, also some of the vinyl has been scratched from past usage of a bad brush I think. a woolite solution does nothing for it, nor does scrubbing with an MF.

Try to get some EO All wheel and tire orange cleaner and dilute it 6:1, spray it on the presumed area and let it sit for about 1 minute. Take a damp MF and wipe off. Follow up with your favorite vinyl conditioner/cleaner, apply, and then buff off.:up

Eh......this may sound extreme but for the really stubborn marks I wetsand them with 2000 grit paper, I use that on the smooth vinyl.

For textured surfaces I will use a soft wire brush. Work in a circular motion, don't apply tons of pressure and it should work just fine.

Interesting Anthony. So you're saying that vinyl trim can be wetsanded and that there's no outer "skin" or coating that we have to worry about?

This would be useful to me, because my door sill trim is "textured".... but it's not supposed to be! I toyed with the idea of wetsanding it back to a smooth finish, but didn't want to make anything worse.

I think I'm going to move this to the Detailing forum since this isn't really a Pro specific topic, and other people might be curious too. :)

What do we mean by "door scuffs"? I've put in stainless steel sill plates to keep my big clumsy feet from damaging the sill, if that's what we mean.

I think that's what he means.I have the same problem with my kids getting out they don't pay attention and scuff the doors with there shoes getting out.

If you're talking about vinyl/plastic trim, try the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. My GF had scuffs on her doors from her shoes that absolutely nothing would take off. No standard cleaner, not Goo Gone, not Goof Off even (did dull the plastic nicely though!). A few wipes with the Magic Eraser and they were history. She also now uses it to remove my greasy / dirty handprints from the texture on the refridgerator. :) One of the few products I've found that works as it is advertised.

Brian,

So sorry for my delayed response......kidney stones:scared :shocked man those little buggers REALLY hurt!

If you have a textured surface then I recommend using a "soft" wire detailing brush and scrubbing in small tight circles with the cleaner fo your choice.

Now if your surface should be smooth then I would try wetsanding it, but first do a small area out of the way if possible . I have even used a paint polish on some pieces after wetsanding.

Be aware though that after a wetsanding the piece in question "may" be a slightly lighter shade in color. It doesn't always happen but it is possible.

OK, I need to go and drink about 12 gallons of water right now so take care and good luck!

Simple green always works wonders for me.

Another enthusiastic recommendation for the Mr Clean Magic Eraser. Just repeat the words of kompressornsc here and replace girlfriend with wife. This is one of the few products that really does deliver on its pie in the sky promises.
