viewing paint defects...

After polishing a vehicle it looks nearly perfect. The lights don't reveal any swirls so it's out the door. Most of the pictures I see posted are shot from several feet away or at a 90 degree angle to the car. Looking directly down at a 90 degree angle most polished paint looks great-sure you'll notice a few rids but overall it looks great. Moving from that 90 degree position to a lower 45 degree position opposite of your light source may reveal a different situation. This lower angle allows one to see the plane of the paint surface and can reveal pitting and rids that otherwise might go unnoticed.

Yeah, doing a truly thorough inspection, where you see *every* flaw (whether you decide to fix them or not) is sooo difficult on some paints that, well...that's a big part of why I put so little weight on internet pics of "perfect" finishes. Hard enough to evaluate a finish when I'm doing it in person under highly controlled circumstances.
