Vibration and splatter wth 7424...little help please

Had my first try with my new 7424 today. Bought it from Coastal Tool with the 6" velcro plate and 6" counerweight kit. Seems to be fine up to about 5 to 5.5 speed. After that it does not speed up incrementally but just seems to "jump" to high speed, vibrates madly, and splatters product all over the place. Any suggestions about what to do about this?

Yes it's a big speed jump from 5-5.5 to 6.The vibes aren't so bad with the 5" flex plate and 6"counter weight combo in my experience. As far as splatter goes if you work the product around with the PC off then start out at 3 or 4 and make a pass or two before going to hyper speed this should reduce the splatter.

I keep reading about the 5.5 setting on the PC. There isn't one. On every PC I have tried or used there are no klicks between 5 and 6. There are between the other numbers but once you hit 5 if you turn the dial it goes to 6 with no klicks. Also the speeds gradualy increase with each klick of the dial up to 5, then the increase in speed from 5 to 6 is quite large.

A five inch backing plate and 6 inch counter weight with a 6 inch pad is the best combo I have tried. The vibration is not too bad.

Your right there are no clicks between 5 and 6,but you can stop the dial between 5 and 6 with out the click.

Yeah but there is no difference in speed. On the ones I have tried once you pass 5 it does not change speed untill it klicks into 6.

5, 5.5 , 5. whatever, same speed untill 6 than it feels like it's going warp speed.

Well your right again even though I find myself going to 6 than backing off to 5.5.There is no difference in speed between 5 and 5.5.

So then this is not abnormal...from what I am hearing. I use the 6" backing plate with the 6" counterweight and 6" pads. Even if I work in the product quite a bit it still flys all over the place if I switch to 6. I am glad to know, at least, that I don't have a defective PC.

Use less product and make sure the PC is always against the panel when it's turned on. If you get (much) splatter with a PC it's from too much product. Just takes a little experience to see how much to use, you'll get the hang of it in no time.

No, really...that's not it. I could work the product in until it completely disappears at speed 5 for 10 minutes, then when I switch to 6, KABOOM - product specks flying everywhere. All the stuff that has accumulated at the center fo the pad just flys out.

You get used to the vibrations! Seriously! I could only use it for 10 minutes tops at start--now I can do 3 cars in a day!

What kind of pad are you using? I've had no problems with products splattering with the concave TOL pads. :)
