My car was repainted about 4 weeks ago it is a very dark maroon colour and the clear coat seems very soft is easily scratched or marked because of this.

The paint job looks very good, depth & shine my questions are:

1.Will the clear coat harden and become more durable in time or will it stay soft.

2.what can i do about it even washing is a worry and have noticed some fine scratching when doing so.

3.Why is it so soft surly this cant be normal.

1. Yes, it is releasing fumes and gases right now and will harden in 30-120 days depending on the paint and clear brands.

2. You can't do anything about it until it fully hardens so don't do anything more than wash it for now.

3. refer to point 1

You may want to search for "fresh paint," as the thread topic, and settle in for a couple of hours of reading. I had some paint work done last fall, and doing what I suggested helped immeasurably.

Also there is a possibility to be a soft clear coat, but you will know that after 3-4 months as it is mentioned above....Be sure that your car is parked enough time in direct sunlight...Not sure, but my painter told me that helps the CC to get it is hardness faster...

When I had my truck repainted the body shop left sanding marks every were it looked like ****! I asked the owner of the shop if it was OK to polish all the sand marks out he said go for it. So I did it my self using Menzerna 83 & 106ff with no problems it been about 8 months now and it still looks good! The only thing he mentioned was not to apply any thing with silicone in it for about 4-6 weeks.

no, dont wax it. it has to release gasses n such for a couple weeks-several months like rzjz8a0 said... your not supposed to put any type of wax or sealant on it in that time... or atleast that it what ive read on here a couple times.

Atm im to scared to touch it everytime i do i scratch it,like i said im very happy with finish but fear there is something wrong for it to be so soft.
