I have the PC supplied backing plate part 18001 "standard" hook and loop. It does not hold on pads for doody! Is there another plate that works better? I see one on TOL, is that any good?

I have brand new pads that won't stick to it.

Thanks,

Bruce

The Meguiar's backing plate and pads I have seem to work good together. Used since last October, but only on my own cars. Maybe 25 times at most.

I have one of the 5 inch backing plates from CMA when I bought the DM-KIT 2 years back. this plate has held and ripped off about 8-10 different pads. It has seen long days too. The velcro was so strong is basically ripped the velcro off the relatively weak Meguiar's pads. The Lake Country Mfg. pads faired better, went through 2 white polishing pads in 2 years of constant use with my yellow cutting one in the middle of its life span and my black finishing one still good.

Go and get a new plate. You sould have one as a backup just in case.

CMA has them, as well as other sites.

3M stick like cement.

Meguiars have a quality control issue - as I observed and Mike has since commented on. They are currently reworking their design.

Whatever one Griots gives you with the PC they sell is good. I've had it for a couple years now and the thing is sticky as hell.

It's actually with the hook design of the backing plate. Additionally, I think the rubber may have issue. When I used it, it seem to flex quite a bit so if that is the case, perhaps the hooks are not strong enough to withstand the extra gripping force required to keep the pad fixed.

But then again, I could just be imaging things :0
