Process looks great, but you can safely skip the dawn wash.

If you're going to use an abrasive polish like Menzerna IP, you're going to strip the wax regardless, so skip the Dawn and using regular car soap (Gold Class in this case) should be fine. Also, it's probably not necessary to apply Z-2 with a PC. You'll probably end up wasting more product that way. A MF applicator might be a better choice.

Your paint condition will determine whether you need to clay or not.

If you are going to wash with dawn, do that first. But other than that I use SIP followed by ZAIO quite often. I kinda user ZAIO as a prep for Z-2/Z-5

Dawn wash is unnecessary but will not hurt anything and will remove any greasy substance that may clog polishing pad.

Outside of of that I would seriously consider claying. This should be a step in any complete prep work, even when paint appears or feels fine. Clay is a wonderful cleanser and ultra-fine polishing step. You can clay as you wash and save a little time.

I would also wait to after the first wash after applying Zaino to apply the Souveran. This will allow the Zaino to completely cure (cross-link) and evolute its beauty and protection and not be disrupted by the oils in the Souveran.

I would...

1. Wash

2. Clay

3. Polish

4. If there is some dusting from the polishing... wash or wipe down thoroughly with Z6

5. ZAIO

6. Z2 X 2

7. Top with your carnauba if you must. Keep in mind that you won't be able to add more Z2 unless you go back to the ZAIO or to the polishing step.

I would do this...

1) Wash

2) Clay

3) Polish with Menzerna IP

4) Wash with Dawn

5) ZAIO

6) Z2pro

try adding souvern to a small section and see if you like the look over Zaino. Once applied, you cannot layer anymore of the Zaino on top. I think multiple coats of Zaino would do better then switching products at that point, honestly. I don't think 'nuba's bound well over Zaino, because I have never seen an increase in depth/gloss/appearance.

Isn't ZAIO an *effective* paint cleaner? Does it *really* need the help of Dawn?

I used dawn once, and that was when I started using the Z line. Since then I should of known better if you're gonna polish, there's no need for a Dawn wash, and Z-AIO eliminates that purpose.

Hi Chris,

"Dawn wash is unnecessary but will not hurt anything and will remove any "greasy substance" that may clog polishing pad."

Not that ZAIO can't handle the greasy residues that may not be removed with a normal car shampoo, but it usage is more of a pad saver (number needed to complete job) then anything else.

I can't think of any worst post-detail task then cleaning buffing pads.:sadwavey:

I personally like an IPA wipe down during the drying stage as my means of choice to remove old residual LSP

Edwin, I guess that make sense. I'd just assume that the IP would have taken care of all that.

IP certainly will perform this task.

We may be talking about different Dawn washes in his protocol. I am talking about the initial wash. I need to go back and check his list.

Chris, you are perfectly correct. No Dawn wash is called for after IP.:goodjob

I always use dawn for the initial wash to get all the crap possible off the car to make claying/polishing easier. I usually don't wash after the clay either since it's quite unnecessary when following up with a polish which is going to remove anything left behind regardless. Menzerna IP has worked well for me in the past with an orange pad, then moving on to FP with a white pad.
