Using UPP and KSG together?

I have heard UPP is the slickest stuff around with a nice deep wet look to it but KSG kills it on the durability end. Would UPP bond to KSG or vice versa? I want to try and combine the deepness and slickness of UPP with the durability of KSG.

this has been talked on here a few times and everytime its spoken, its left un clear. i know KSG wouldnt bond over upp, simply because KSG is very finicky and needs a clean surface. but i dont see why upp would not bond to KSG. i mean. KSG has no oils in it. id love to hear wha some have to say about it, AGAIN. :rofl

I am guessing then no one has tried this out joyride? Yeah i would have to agree with you now that I think about it SG wouldnt like bonding to UPP since I hear there are some oils in it. But here is a new question to go along with the other: If I apply multiple layers of SG and then UPP ontop will i still be able to extract the deep wet look UPP gives ontop of SG?

IIRC, a prominenet member of the boards has tried these selanats out together in alternating coats. I could be confused about the sealants, but give it a little time.... someone may chime in on it shortly.

Maybe I am having a brain short, but where have you heard that UPP is oily?

I have read on other forums UPP has oils in it..maybe not very oily...I guess there are no oils in at all...so there must be something synthetic in UPP which makes it so slick and MAY cause bonding issues with KSG.

UPP is a synthetic sealant.... I don't know what's in it (or not in it), but I am almost certain I remember someone using it alternating with SG and they liked the results. Again, I could be wrong. :dunno

I've layered them before without any problems. As long as you wait the 24 hours between coats then there shouldn't be any issue with bonding. Honestly though... after having tried a lot of different techniques and layerings, I find that I enjoy the look of straight Klasse or straight UPP better than having them layered in between each other. The layers look great, but when compared to straight one or the other, I'd have to go with the non layering of those products. That's just personal preference though. I think everybody should try it and see what they think. It may be different on different cars. My white one looked better with just one or the other.

Instead of a layer of KSG then a layer of UPP then a layer of KSG or vice versa have you tried multiple layers of KSG then mulitple layers of UPP? If so how does that compare to just straight Klasse or straight UPP?

I've put a couple layers of UPP on top of several layers of KSG. It looks great, but it still looked better with just pure KSG or pure UPP. The reflections started to get a bit fuzzy when I got that many layers on.

Thanks jngrbrdman and everyone else...I think I will give it a try and see how it looks with KSGx3 and UPPx2.....at worst it would be a bit blurry like jngrbrdman said but it would sure be slick!

Sorry everyone I know it has been awhile but I finally got all the layers on and took some pics. What is on there currently is SGx2 and UPPx2. I know I said I would put 3 layers of SG but I got the UPP and couldnt wait to put it on :D Unfortunately there was no sun out so the pics are so so. I will try and get some more once the sun comes out.

Here is a reflection pic of the passenger side.

A lastly did some experimenting and I wanted to see if you guys with can see a difference between my front in rear doors (depth, wetness....anything you notice) I really dont see a difference but then again my experience is very limited.

The front door has half Natty's and half S100 on it. The rear door UPPx2. The slickness of UPP did leave once I put on the S100 and Natty's but I just had to try it out. :D

I have a silver Maxima and after about the 3rd coat of UPP I do not see any difference, but once I put P21S wax (one coat) the shine is a little wetter.

On the other hand the more layers and P21S i put on my girls Sentra Se-R (Vibrant Blue) the looks just gets better and better.

for looks, i only put two coats. after that anycoat applied is just gonna help the durabilty of the product. the looks only look better after the second application mainly because it covers the area more uniform. considering the amount of protection thats actually left behind is microscopic so i doubt it really woud do much on looks factor. i always seal the deal with 2 coats of a selant and then either top it later on or just add another application

I'm not positive that mineral spirits are oils per se, but you could call them that. They are highly refined petrol distilates. If that's an oil than every poly sealant contains oil. It's what the poly is in poly sealant! 99% of used synthetic Polymers are refined distolates. I'd bet the farm that SG also has "oil" in it.

I just added UPP on top of my KLASSE SG lined car. The UPP went on great, no problem.

I thought that my 1st coat of UPP wasn't quite as slick as cars I've done where the UPP went on right after AIO or PP. The 2nd coat seemed to do it. Might be my imagination -- I think as long as the SG or other sealant has bonded and is CLEAN, you shouldn't have any problem putting UPP on it.

FWIW, I would think the reverse is also true if you wanted to do it: UPP underneath should be OK with SG on top. Again, the UPP coat should be fully bonded (18-24 hours) and CLEAN.

I think KLASSE SG is stronger protection-wise but I thought 1 coat of UPP on other cars was slicker than my 2 or 3 coats of SG, so I wanted a coat or two of UPP on mine. I think SG first, then UPP, is the way to go.
