Using PC 7424 as a household sander?

I just bought a DeWalt 5" random orbital sander to do some work around the house, while I couldn't justify buying a PC 7424 to detail my 3 cars.

Then I thought about it and realized "DOH, I could use the PC as my orbital sander instead of the DeWalt and kill two birds with one stone!!"

Is that a valid realization there or should I not use the PC as a sander and then use it on my cars? Is there any other reason why I shouldn't (try to, at least) return the DeWalt and buy the PC instead for double duty?

There are a lot of people who use their PC as both a sander and a polisher--I've done it myself a few times. Just make sure that the PC is clean so you aren't introducing any marring to the paint surface.

I use mine for both. i just blow it out with my compressor after sanding so the dust isn't hanging around.

Well, you *could*. But I have no idea how effective it would be.

My advice would be to return it and get a PC.

Well I was hoping to return it but after looking at Amazon's policy, it seems i would have to pay a hefty restocking fee since I already opened it. Grr... Seems like I'm gonna have to suck it up and get a PC anyways, and maybe hope to sell the sander on eBay or Craigslist.
