using microfiber cloth on pc

Just got my PC 7336 from Lowes a while back and used it this last weekend. Detailing a white 99 ML430 using Meguiars DACP /#9 and P21s Carnauba wax. Came out great !!

Question.......I picked up a half/dozen 3M detailing cloths and used them to remove all the products..both by hand and machine.I eventually just placed the cloth folded over once under the PC with a fresh polishing pad. Worked great and you can actually reposition the cloth four times to have a fresh microfiber surface.

Is this a good procedure or are there drawbacks ? Since the PC doesn't actually 'rotate', I had no problems with catching on trim, etc.....Is this at all harmful to the finish ? Thanks........

Although I have some MF bonnets that I use for buffing, I have read that some use a MF cloth and their PC just like you're doing.... shouldn't be a problem at all if the 3M cloth is a good MF. I would be careful if there are any sewn edges on the 3M (or any other brand) of MF, just keep the sewn edge from contacting the paint (especially if trapped under the PC), it may cause some marring.

If you want some quality MF's try one of these guys:

I recently checked out one of the 3M MFs and it seemed fine to me. The "regular MF-under-the-PC" trick is perfectly OK. If it works for you (i.e., sufficiently user-friendly) just stick with it.

Do it all the time!

I however dont fold mine, i use a plush 16x16 and just lay it flat on the surface, and use the same methods for buffing as i do for product removal. Keep a pad on the PC ! Dont just use the backing plate alone! Thats a recipe for disaster !I worried about any sewn edges and opted to have no pressure from the pc. So the edges kind of just float on the surface. Works like a champ !
