using Menzerna FP?

I have soe of the "old" FP and have never been able to get the hang of using it. I can use the IP by rotary with no problems and get good results, but everytime I try to use F:P I have problems. I can get about half of a hood fine and then it starts to gum up on the surface. Ive tried less product, more product, wetting the pad with QD but nothing seems to help? I tried again today using the rotary with a polishing pad at about 1500rpm. Maybe Ill stick to using the 3M PI3 MG.
 
Classic Motoring recommends you spritz the pad with a little water. Have you tried that? Also, I use a PC, not a rotary. Maybe that makes a difference.:nixweiss
 
I have used IP & FPII with a PC and I had the exact same problem, but with FPII. It seemed to gum up quite a bit while using it. If anything I think that I might have used too little product using both IP and FPII.
 
When I started using FP i had the same problem. There are few little tricks to making it easier to use.



1. make sure the pad is clean, clean the pad after every pannel or so

2. If its a new pad, give it a spritz of water and use a bit more product for the first initial pass to help prime the pad.

3. Feed FP into the pad at low speed, with the buffer still at low speed, do a few passes to thin out the polish to prevent it from gumming up because it dries quickly. Speed up the buffer to work in/break down the product. Slow the buffer down once FP is broken down to prevent hollograms.



It sounds like a lot of work but it is really quite simple when get used to it.
 
p.s in the Menzerna line, po 85U will allow you to work it in longer but dosent have the gloss of FP(po87mf). FP2 will allow you to work the product longer by also has a less gloss than FP. PO85RD (ceramiclear) also allows you to work the product a little longer and has also more gloss than the original FP.

Spring the $ for some P085RD. It is truely awsome stuff and after using it, it is unlikely I'll ever go back to FP, even though I never had any problems with FP. The P085RD stays "wet" a long time and I work it until it is essensially invisible on the paint.



I have used it with a Metabo and a PC, both with LC VC gray pad, both at high RPM. Metabo at #4 setting (out of 6) and PC @ #6.



Honda paint responds well to it and so does Ford.

Wow Gonzo that is some awesome work! Maybe Ill have to try the P085RD.



For the other FP users how much do you apply to the pad, or how long of a linbe do you use per section (2' x 2')?
