Used Porsche or New M3?

Im planning on trading in my car in another 12-18 months. Obviously I have all the time in the world to read car forums, reviews, stats, reliabilty ratings, records, ect. But for sh*ts and giggles, which one would you guys get.



Used low milage (under 10k) Porsche 911 "S" or Brand new M3 (scheduled to come out in another year).



The porsche is everything porsche is known for, but the new M3 has some promising figures, along with their already exhisting M3. The porsche has better reliabilty, more exotic, better handling, and almost the same power the new M3 is soon to boost.



The new M3 will be 400+ HP from a naturally aspirated engine.

The Porsche "S" is still a porsche. :)



So which would you do? Used Porsche, or new model M3?





Remember, I have like 18 months to really start thinking, but this is just for fun.
 
Is it something you will drive all the time or just a weekend toy? If all the time I'd get the BMW, but I'd go with the Porsche if its a weekend thing. I don't know why I'd do it that way, just a gut reaction.

IMHO, it doesn't matter which one so long as you DRIVE THE BEJEEZUS out of it!!!

If memory serves me correct, aren't you 19 years old ? Also within the past year or so haven't you had a MINI, BMW 3 series and now a BMW X5? Why the need to change vehicles so often? Are they hot or something? How are you affording these vehicles? Aren't you a college student? Is Horatio Crane or Sonny Crockett looking for you? Hope that wasn't too many questions.



P.S. Porsche always has a capital letter, it doesn't come and go. :nixweiss
 
I love those M-3's, it's probably everything a Bimmer should be...that been said and obviously been vias, I'll go Porsche... there is no substitute !!!



P.D. And yes you could always find an excuse to drive it every day, as it is good to have a four door sedan for those hot days... :chuckle:
 
IMO the two choices are *so* utterly different that when you get some (preferably serious, maybe on-track) seat time in both you'll find that one appeals a lot more than the other. Cars suit some people and don't suit others, never mind how great the cars in question are.



But buying *anything* brand new is gonna cost you compared to buying something that's already been titled. Sometimes the had-it-since-new effect is worth it to me, sometimes it's not.

Not to mention, you're talking about the first model year of the new M3. Given BMW's quality issues, not sure that's what you want to do. Porsche OTOH was just rated #1 by JD Powers.



Of course I'm a little biased
 
I drove a c4s and a cayman today (i liked the c4s a lot better) But i would take them both over an m3. I few months ago i went on a test drive day with my dad and we drove a boxster s, m3, 6 series, and a 911. The 911 was my favorite, then the boxster s, then the m3, then the 6 series. Yeah he bought the 6 series haha. Best year round car of em all i guess. But yea driving a porsche is way better than driving a bmer(sorry bmw owners, still very nice cars my mother has a 330xi). Its just ab etter experience, and theres nothign like the sound of a porsche engine. So in conclusion, used carrera s baby. My dads thinking of buying a used c4s because he doesnt want to fork over 100k.(yea you guessed it hes sick of the 6 series)
 
oh yeah, dont throw out the s4 or rs4, i drove the s4 a few weeks ago and man was that a car. Gorgeous too. Plus awd for those of us who are lucky enough to have snow.
 
Never driven an M3 but did test drive an M5 (400hp) and a 7 (400hp+) series during their summer test drive experience 2 years ago. Owned a 996 for 5 years. Both had the power and braking of my 911 but both lacked the handling, sound and the balance of the Porsche.



1. BMW is a serious sport sedan and the Porsche is a serious sports car. I choose the Porsche because its more fun to drive.



2. new is new and old is old. I would choose the BMW and its 4yr warrantee.



3. a sports car > than a sports sedan. I take the Porsche 911 especially in the twisties.



4. Porsche > BMW. In quality and in paint.



5. BMW cost < than Porsche. Well, that's up to you and your banker.

You can say that I have had many doors opened for me and I have taken full advantage. Im a student and work full time as a paralegal.
 
Well that sure cleared things up for me Mr. Verbose. It's up to you but since you've had two BMW's you know what they're like. If you want to be able to carry people then a BMW sedan is the way to go. Just remember the first year rule, you may encounter teething problems with a new model. If you want a sports car, we all know Porsche makes beautiful machines. It's your money and your insurance.

I'm a college student, too, and I drive a PT Cruiser :woot2:



But seriously, are you buying these cars all by yourself, or are you getting help from loved ones? Do you also pay insurance?



Just curious, as I'd like to know what I'm doing wrong sitting here with all these student loans :(

I graduated at 17 concluding many AP classes. Got my Paralegal degree in only two years (last March). Still going to school. Parents are both lawyers, which have gotten me into the doors of one of the biggest law firms (ex partners) here in Miami. Pays very well, but do not get me wrong, work is also strenuous. I go to school most of the time I am not working. My X5 is the first car I have paid everything for from beginning to end. Including insurance.



This topic refrences a purchase in 1-2 more years, so don't think Im ready to let go of my 4.8is just yet. Just thinking.

Don't get too down - Im in the same boat you are. Doesn't matter what you drive as long as you work hard for your money and earn what you have, hate nothing more than those spoiled kids who do nothing yet have everything and simply think they are going to take over "mommy and daddys riches and business"!



Also, living at home and having all these luxuries is different than living on your own paying rent/mortgage, bills, etc..and having them.
 
I had a 15 year old Buick Regal..which others found to be cooler than I did...they thought it was 'Pimp' LOL



First, I say invest heavily for retirement..it's those early years of investing that pay off big in the long run.



I'd say go impractical while you're young!!! and go with the Porsche.. But I'd get a Boxter S and invest the rest

Love it. I have never liked the boxster as I dont like convertables witht he top up. lol.. But I heard its still a dream to drive.



Boss stated to go Porsche as it would look good parked next to his Porsche GT3 in the garage at work. lol.



You are the first person to ever bring up to me that I should save up. But now that I look at it, I should. Where you referring to investing in stocks, bonds, property, ect?
