Well i finally got to use OC on my truck. I had pretty bad swirls and scratches considering it is 10yrs old. After going over the hood and entire driver side the hood has "white stripes" and the paint seems kind of dull also there are still some swirls left in. I know im breaking down the OC pretty good to a clear stage and i only use 3-4 pea sized dots i spread on speed 4 and work in with speed 6 with an orange pad. Will following up with OP get rid of the white stripes and bring back the shine of my paint. Also what pad should i use with OP if thats the route i should take. I could wash and reuse the orange pad, or i have a yellow black or blue pads. ANy help would be great.

Can you post pics? When I use OC I usually have a hard time buffing it all off and it looks kind of hazy, so I make a pass with OP and that usually clears things up...but I don't know about the white lines youre talking about.

I dont have a digital camera. The white lines arent solid they look hazy. Im gonna finish up the truck and then take OP with a blue LC pad and i hope it removes the rest.

I'm guessing maybe single stage paint and you have oxidation causing a build up...I can't say for certain as I'm not familiar with trucks and their paint from 10 years ago....but are you pulling paint on the pads? If so then this is your problem.

Just continue polishing, cleaning your pads often and changing towels often also.

its a 1997 Ford Explorer Its paint is called E4 Red Clearcoat so I'm assuming it has a clearcoat on it. Thanks for your reply. I think im going to continue as i was last night and then go over every panel twice with OP on an LC Blue pad.

Yeah, it's common for compounds to leave a haze and/or marring. It seems you're on the right path by following up with OP, you should be able to bring back the luster to the paint and it should finish down really nice so you can seal and/or wax. I'd use a green polishing pad.

Thanks rkf76. I washed my orange pad and its drying so while its drying i got out the OP and a black pad since it was that or blue and im saving blue for EX-P. It took the marring down alot and took away any minor swirls left over from OC. OP also brought back the luster. With red paint Im not getting the depth i was hoping but maybe it will come with EXP with nattys over it.

To help with drying your pad, just throw that thing on your PC and spin it on 6 and it'll be dry in 20 seconds.
That's how I dry mine, but 3-4 is plenty for me.
