Used 1z 3-step plan topped with pinnacle souveran - still not happy, swirled

Ok, firstly, Im a noob. I read posts and asked around and decided to order the 3-step process (red, green, and yellow cans) of einszeit.

I bought a 1993 Rx-7 in March, and the paint was in bad shape. Very dull, and not smooth at all. Being a 1993 car that was red, this car needed a lot of work. So I used a clay bar, followed by a wash, and then 1 coat each of the 1z polishes. This was topped off with pinnacle souveran carnuba. 1z worked well for brining back the shinyness of the paint and making the surface smoother.

The car is still badly swirled. What am I missing? I would not hesistate to do everything over again. I still am looking for a swirl/scratch free finish.

RX-7 Addict- I'm still feeling bad that I couldn't help you out when I was in Cleveland that other time (heh heh, the weekend I couldn't meet with you I had to go up there to look at a for-sale car anyhow, and I got a nice expensive speeding ticket :o ). Maybe I can help a bit long-distance.

You better accept that you might not be able to get a truly marring-free finish. Between the abuse the RX suffered before you got it and the hardness of the paint, there's a limit to what is possible/prudent. You don't want to thin the clear too much, especially on red (red needs all the UV protection it can get). Bummer, huh? But maybe you can still make a noticeable improvement.

Were you working by hand or PC? If by hand, you've got your work cut out for you. If by PC, it's less work, but still gonna take a lot of time. Even with a rotary, it would be a bit of a job, so don't feel bad that your first attempt wasn't entirely successful.

I'd pick a limited, "contained" area, some spot that can be repainted easily if you make a real :scared I don't remember our RX well enough to recommend a particular panel (sorry, but hey, it's been a dozen years ;) ). Isn't there a painted panel behind the rear window that's part of the hatch? If so, I'd probably pick that. Again, pick a separate panel that can be repainted for a few hundred bucks if need be. You don't want to start on the hood, for instance.

You'll have to go over the panel more than you did previously.

Work it with the UP until the (original) marring is replaced (or at least mostly replaced) by the UP's micromarring. Then use the PP to remove *that*. This might take a while. Then do a quick pass with the MP. That's really all there is to it, but easier said than done, huh?

I apologize in advance if this comes off as an insultingly dumb question, but you didn't just lay a coat of each product on without rubbing it in, did you?

Sorry, just making sure, no offence intended! :o
