Use of 100% Terry Cotton Towels

I used menzerna IP on a car today, and was wiping it off with a MF, and realised that it was quite difficult to remove.

I thought about it, and pulled out one of my 100% cotton towels and decided to use that instead. What a revelation, the product was much easier to remove and it literally 'squeeked' clean to leave a *flawless* finish.

So, was this the wrong thing to do, isn't there still room for the use of these towels or are they absolutely a :nono

I still do use my terry towels, but they are for the most part relegated to "dirtier" work, like initial cleanings of door jambs, applying plastic coatings to the door jambs, etc. I do still occasonally use them on the paint, though I think the general consensus is that it's not as good as a MF. In my experience, I have not induced any marring with *my* terry towels. Just like MF's, there are different qualities of terry towels. If you're careful and it seems to work better, then go for it. I dont see why it would be "wrong" to do something that works and leaves a flawless finish.

You know, I've often felt that 100% cottom terry towels remove product more easily than MF. But that's not the PC (politically correct, that is :p) thing to say these days ;) I also remember Mike Phillips from Meguiar's saying to use cotton terry towels instead of MF for removing #16.

As far as marring the paint goes, I've never had a problem with cotton.

While I'm one of those people who usually say "!! use MF to prevent marring!!" I agree with the above posts. If it works for you it works. Just be careful to make sure it *keeps on* working for you.

The most important thing when using a cotton towel is to continue to flip it around, shake it out and have several on hand.

When washing the towel only use liquid detergent and then partially dry in the dryer. I find that if you let it air dry it becomes too stiff and not as fluffy.

I haven't used my terry towels on any paint since last winter. I use only MF products on my paint or anyone else's. However, I have 30-some terry towels, and they do have their uses.

Drying tires, washing/drying wheelwells, metal polishing/buffing, plastic polishing/buffing...

IOW, they are only used for jobs that I would not let my expensive MFs touch. They do a good job for what I use them for. I just hate the dust they produce, so I rarely use them anywhere but outside in the open where the dust can blow away.
