Use hot water ?

My water heater is going bad at the house. Going to have a new one put in, and my question is, while they have the pipe cut i was thinking of tapping into my outside water with a hot water line with a inside shut off valve. Any advantages in using warm water to wash with? Outside water is shut off in the basement during winter. GOOD OR BAD IDEA ?

Just in terms of convenience, this is darned near a must have.

My Dad did this years ago at his place. Has the shut-off valve

inside. Makes it VERY nice on those rare winter days when it's clear here in Ohio to wash your car properly in your own driveway.

If you're going to do it, get one of these: Outdoor Sill Faucet so you can adjust the temperature from outside. If it were me I would definitely do it if it was an easy replumb.

Setec, thats a VERY good idea! I can't tell you how bad the cold water I use hurts my hands, having warm / hot water will be such a life saver when i want to wash out side in the fall / winter.



perhaps I can do this for myself this winter....

Does anyone use warm or hot water with ONR. Since I read about the guy hooking up a new line outside ,I thought it was a good question.

I use warm water with ONR, mostly for my own comfort.



Since it only takes 5 gallons of water or so to wash with ONR, I wouldn't bother with any new plumbing. I just fill up my buckets in the bathtub.

I did the same thing during the summer when the plumber was at the house to replace my hot water heater. He ran a hot water line to the outlet in the garage, and replaced the bib with one that had both a hot and cold handle. Hot water is usually always better for washing as it lifts the dirt better, but, more importantly, it's not so cold on your hands, and I'm all into comfort these days.

Those dual outdoor faucet sets can be a little expensive, but I highly recommend getting hot water to your car washing location if you can.

Yeah, it all depends on your situation. I had looked at that Moen faucet because of the location of my outdoor faucet and the fact it will slide thru the existing hole in the (cinderblock) wall...the other side of the wall is a different story, since it would require tearing out part of my laundry room wall...I think you can guess I still only have cold water outside...
